So call it a little advance scouting but since I got NFL+ I ended up watching the game.

Every once in awhile you hear teams say something like we did not lose we beat ourselves. I normally don't buy into these types of statements because I feel like it really undermines the opponent. But holy crap this might be the one time where I can say that the Lions really did beat themselves.

1. If you looked at that Box Score but did not know who won the game, I think most people would say the Lions. They beat the Bucs in just about every metric. Yard(both passing and running), ToP, 1st and 3rd down efficacy. The Lions ran 30+ more plays then the Bucs.

2. The big one was the penalty at the end of the half that took a chip shot field goal away. Just horrible coaching, that three points changes the entire tenor of the last quarter where the Lions are forced to go for the TD on two drives in FG range. Just horrible.

3. Red Zone was just horrible 1-7. They where driving the ball deep into Tampa territory on almost every possession. Some of the play calls where just mystifying.

4. Penalties they only had 4 but they totaled 71 yards.

5. Goff just made some really dumb throws, including the two INT.

Kudos to the Bucs for the win, but man I was not really impressed. Like Backer made some clutch plays to win the game, but for the most part he was pretty average. They had no run game with 70 yards, 3.0 per carry, Baker was there leading rusher. Such a weird game to watch, the Lions have to be kicking themselves for giving this game away.

The Lions and the Eagles losing games that they really shouldn't have MIGHT help us if WE win the division. There's way too much football left to play but let's just say that we win the division, these games could possible grant us the #1 seed. This is why I'm actually not upset with these losses.

I taped it also and will watch later cos I wanted to know, too,. I mean, I keep hearing how good the Bucs are but I was also hearing about the box score and how you would think the Lions won. We know Dan Campbell is a good coach so I couldn't have imagined what the heck happened.

The problem is both of those loses came against division rivals. If we keep playing the way we are right now then everything will take care of itself but I still wish the Bucs and Falcons would have loss those games.

Ben Johnson was the biggest reason they lost the game. His play calling in the 4Q was the worst of his career that I can remember.

@BoNcHiE and I posted about this in the sports betting thread. It was just awful.
Have to check that thread out, but yeah I agree, not sure whose fault it was but there was one 4th down play where Goff dumps the ball off behind the 1st down marker with zero chance to get the 1st down. Was just a god awful play.

Its a tough watch, I watched the condescended 40 min. game. I can't imagine how horrible watching the entire 3 hour game would be. Goff played horrible but I really do feel like this loss was on coaching.

Imagine the possibly of getting the number 1 seed, 2 home playoff games, and the Super Bowl all in the Superdome and then Madi Gras to boot! The city/state would be crazy for 2 months straight!

It was, I remember exactly the play you are referring to. Just bad. I get breaking tendencies and all, but man, that was a brutal game to watch.

The Bucs tackled well. This is often the difference in many games. The Lions got very few YAC compared to their game averages from last year and in the red zone. They looked like a well coached team. Our game against them will be legendary.

It’s nice to get a feel for a team by watching their matchups. The only problem is teams tend to play differently, against a division rival. Division games, have that “it” factor……unless you are a team in disarray like the Panthers currently. The Bucs and Falcons both have a good amount of talent on their teams. They will definitely play us like we are their “Super Bowl”. You can’t get that by watching them play against some other Joe

I completely agree. I checked the team stats, too. One would think the Lions ran over the Bucs.
How much of a difference did the 2 turnovers [ interceptions ] by the Lions make, compared to the Bucs only having 1 turnover [ interception ] ?

I was shocked the Bucs tried throwing the ball on their last 3rd down instead of making the Lions use their last time out...

I wasn't impressed with the way either team looked especially in the 4th quarter.

Detroit has a terrific pass rush but their secondary is below average.
Gibbs is a very talented RB but he isn't used enough in Detroit because of their pass first mentality and the 2 back system they use.
Their OL isn't the best... They allowed Goff to get hit too many times.
His 2nd INT wasn't the best decision by him but his OL letting him get plowed into as he was releasing the ball made it happen...

The one Baker INT came at the end of the half and the Lions got the ball to the 9 yard line and needed to spike the ball for a chip shot FG, but got hit with 17 men on the field which caused a 10 second run off and end of the half. This was a huge blunder because later in the 4th the Lions were down by 4 instead of 1 and needed to pucnh for a TD even when already in FG range.

The Bucs only scored 3 points from the two INT's, the second one the Lions defense forced a punt after 4 offense plays and the Lions got two more possessions to win the game.
