Old FB adage I read was, if you don’t plan to use a player at his current rate, don’t draft him. So I never could comprehend why we’d draft guys at 6’5 265 and then bulk them up 10-15 lbs
We saw it happen w/ Davenport, Turner, Hendrickson and Granderson. Only to see them struggle with injurie.
According to Underhill all of this was based on run defense philosophy that Nielsen was big on.
Every Dlineman still on the team and that we signed, are at lighter weights than they’ve previously played at.
Even Turner is down to 265ish after being around 280 last season and surprise surprise he looks better and is staying out the trainers room.
Im glad DA let a lot of guys walk and brought in people who have a similar vision. Defense lacked an identity for the better part of last year, now it makes sense why.
