With all of these former saints underachieving on their respective teams such as Robert Meachem (San Diego) and Carl Nicks (Tampa Bay), is it fair to assume that Jermon Bushrod will underachieve as well? Thoughts?

Bushrod was solid, but unspectacular in New Orleans. If the Saints had the salary cap space, he'd still be a Saint.

I don't think he'll up his game in Chicago, but I don't see him as a bust either. Solid, but unspectacular.

fair to assume? uh, no. A couple of players hardly makes a trend - it certainly does not make a rule. He was only average to slightly above here and that is what he will most likely be there. But Drew's pocket awareness made him look better than he was, so now he is just going to look the average that he is.

Problem will be the fact that Jay Cutler doesn't have the pocket presence of a Drew Brees and will expose Bushrod for being a very average pass protector.

Jay Cutler has a tendency to hold the ball a lot longer than Drew. That may make Bushrod look like an underachiever.

My thoughts exactly... Drew's impeccable pocket presence and quick release got Bushrod a nice payday in Chicago.

Pretty fair assessment. Bushrod's a decent player. I think he'll struggle more than Bears fans will like. The problem for them is Cutler ain't Brees. Brees has a freakish ability to go through his reads and get rid of the ball quickly. Brees also might have the best "pocket awareness" I've ever seen. His ability to "feel" pressure and move away from it is incredible. Cutler is a statue in the pocket who will hold the ball forever waiting for his receivers to come open. Because of that Bushrod will give up far more sacks than he did with the Saints and Bears fans won't be happy.......

I don't know how well Cutler steps up. Bushrod is pretty good at avoiding the inside move but quick guys get around him. Brees would step up and Bushrod usually pushed him by.

He has a good shot because he is being coached by someone who knows him in and out.

My wife and I was talking today about how ex-saints, seems to have trouble after leaving the saints saw the story about LaCharles Bentley man that was.sad....

Drew always had one eye looking left at the rush coming from that side it appeared (physically impossible but you get the point), even with Brown or Bushrod or whomever was playing left tackle. He took that step or 2 up in the pocket and voila, the rusher was 2 to 3 steps behind Drew, in no danger of making the hit or getting a sack.

Cutler is going to get crushed by that same pass rusher this season.
