I think the excitement over Gay is for three reasons:
1)Relative to the other free agent corners left on the market he seems to be the best, but I don't think anybody here would be satisfied with him being a permanent staple in our secondary. We just need somebody to take over while MM recovers. Of course we are all expecting to draft a corner.

2)He is a local guy that went to LSU

3)His name is Gay and allows us, forum junkies, to make childish, immature, however quite enjoyable and funny, remarks, jokes, puns, and play on words.

I don't think anyone thinks Gay is our savior, but he is significantly better than Jacques Reeves and Drayton Florence and isn't a burn victim like Jason David. He'd be one of the better nickel backs in the NFL and a guy who can fill in for a starter. I think he lacks more physical tools than mental ones.
