The number one band that I can think of is linkin park. I know my musical tastes have gotten heavier, but they have really gone in a totally different direction and not in a good way.

What bands do you really enjoy their earlier stuff, but it drives you nuts because they changed and/or got softer.

I'll say it first.

Metallica.

BS.

They didnt get soft, they just did things their own way. They made the 4 greatest metal albums of all time, they defined a genre. THEN they made a record that sold 22 million. Some musicians have contemporaries in their own genre, Metallica cant be compared to any other metal band. They are just that much better. Sabbath is as close as it gets.

They still play 3 hour shows, tour for years on end, and do what they feel. Theyve made albums of covers, theyve made albums with orchestras, theyve even made albums (crappy as it might be) with Lou Reed. They are pushing 50, and they still play the kill em all stuff live.

Im banking on the NFL opening their eyes and putting Metallica as the Super Bowl halftime show in NOLA next year.

bands have their entire life to write their first album, and typically two years or less to write the second.

Since Metallica is covered, how about Incubus. They were almost faith no more-ish on their first album.

Metallica's documentary showed just how soft, pansy, and entitled they have become. It was the most unmetal thing ever created. What a bunch of whiners.

oh that's a good one. everytime they put out a new album I get mad. Their last album was awful.

Korn. I don't know if I can say they went 'soft', but I do not like the new sounds at all. Didn't they get into electronic music/dubstep? Ugh...

Their self-titled release "Korn" in '94, and "Life is Peachy" will always be my two favorite albums.

"Follow the Leader" was great too but nothing can touch those first two releases.

I haven't gotten down with Rancid and NOFX in a long time because, well their stuff just isn't as good as their earlier work. There was a time where i would travel out of state to see either of them do a show. now, if they are in the zip code I probably don't know about it, and could care less.

Avenged Sevenfold
Didn't have the time to elaborate when I posted this. Anyway...

I would hate them even more if City of Evil sucked but it's actually a damn good album. Waking the Fallen is good for what it is and City of Evil is good for what it is. But their last two albums have sucked. They need to get their **** together.

edit: less random cursing

You say they did their own thing, I say they went soft.

They may play three hour shows, but those shows are boring. I vomited in rage when they played Four Horsemen and Motorbreath acoustically at the last show I went to.

Besides, their best songs were written by Mustaine and Burton. Fact.

Red hot chili peppers that californiacation crap sucks bad. Every cd sounds the same now
