name a band that ****** you off because they got soft. (4 Viewers)

Styx--Suite Madam Blue, Lorelei, etc. compare to any junk off Paradise Theater--'nuff said

Journey--The days with Aynsley Dunbar on drums vs. Open Arms--no contest.

3. REO Speedwagon. Their live You Get What You Play For bears no resemblance whatsoever to the garbage on "Hi Infidelity." Download Golden Country or Like You Do to hear what REO used to sound like. God, what a sellout. Back in the day I watched them blow Aerosmith off the stage at Merriweather Post Pavillion. Of course most of Aerosmith was in, or headed to, rehab :hihi:

On the other hand, Dire Straits Love Over Gold album indicates the band's desire to stick to it's guns despite pressure to change it's sound.

Good call, saintmdterps, bringing up REO Speedwagon. We even started calling them a name I won't repeat because they sold out so bad. "You can't Tuna Fish, but your new music can sure smell like an old one" was a phrase we used to describe their fall to Top 40 bubble gum music as well. If I never hear "Heard It From a Friend Who..." again, it will be too soon.

And you probably know, of course, that Dunbar was kicked out of the band after he complained about the direction they had taken on that hideous record (Infinity) that "put them on the charts". The story goes that he basically told the band that the "new sound" wasn't what he had signed up for and like cowards they asked their manager to tell him he was fired. What a bunch of punks.

cube is in a band?

to quote Run:
He's a one-man band, in his own right
Jam Master jams to the broad daylight
No instruments needed, just two record players
A stage, a crowd, and two rhyme sayers

so "bands" don't have to just be 4 white kid C students from Lawrence, KS who back their dad's impala out of the garage to practice their rise to fame as a Molly Hatchet cover band

and cube has gone from an N with an attitude to someone who's movies make Tyler Perry's look street

some things are just best kept...

Well, Run is entitled to his opinion.

I'll take an actual band though. Ya know, where the people play actual instruments.

1. (not being snarky) but dig into the history of DJing - it's good stuff
and it responds to your "actual instruments" crack

2. the thread was not implying that the bands' musicianship began to suffer (that they played their instruments worse than before) - just that the "music" got soft -- so i'll stick with the inclusion of ice cube

On the Metallica subject, yes Load and Reload are soft, and IMHO St Anger was just wrong, I thought Death Magnetic was hard, fast, and loud for the most part. And how anyone could say Justice isn't the best album...I don't even know how to respond.

And Justice isn't their best album. Their first three are arguably better than And Justice. Don't get me wrong, I like And Justice, but that's where Metallica ends for me.

I'm with you on Justice being their greatest album, but I know that's a minority opinion. All their albums up to that one are masterpieces, hard to pick.

In my opinion Blackened is probably the best metal song ever written, so the nod for me goes to And Justice For All.

We've all heard it a million times, but I'll link it anyway
