Neutering of the NFL (2 Viewers)

The taunting rule is just another rule that has a lot of gray area that allows the refs to control the game. There is a fine line between taunting and trash talking and I don't trust these refs to make that judgment. Its a violent, emotional game and now it can cost a team a game because a ref decides something a player says in an emotional moment is taunting in his opinion.
This. I could care less if they are allowed to taunt or not. I'm tired of judgment calls that allow refs/The League to control games and this one has the ability to turn ridiculous real fast.

Yeah cause it’s hard to play without taunting?
I think the taunting rule had to have been thought up by someone who never played the game. It’s especially hard on CB’s safeties and WR’s. Those matchups are more of a personal battle that feels good to win and they bring out the smack talk. I wish more than anything for the league to just let them play.

Old head rant start: I can remember back around 87-88…..there was some kind of NFL sponsored “road show” that was traveling around, nationally I suppose, and it made a stop at my High School in Southern MS. It felt like a pep rally. They showed a highlight film of the years past season and it featured a lot of the Saints defense making incredible play after play. It was truly impressive and had me ready for the upcoming season. I think every single highlight that was shown would be an illegal hit of some kind in today’s game. The game has changed so much in the past ten years, much less 35 years. I’m still a huge fan of the NFL, but no doubt it’s changed a lot. Semi rant over. ;)
