Some of you might have heard Mike Lombardi talk about how the Saints should never punt. With this offense, we are almost guaranteed to get 10 yards in 4 downs, and the handful of times we don't are outweighed by the extra possessions and scores.

I know there have been some high school coaches and stat guys that have adopted this practice (along with millions of Madden players) but I wonder if Payton is coming close to adopting this position.

We are about to play a string of tough defenses - the same logic that drove us to go for it over and over vs. Baltimore applies equally to MINN and LAR.

FYI, the Saints D is ranked ahead of both of those Ds now. I know we had the bye week already (so did Washington) - but still.

i would almost agree, when hill runs it hes so fast he almost falls forward 2-3 yards bc of his momentum and size... i havent seen him stopped straight up yet, hes trucked a few players

"I approve this message!" - Thomas Morstead

I could deal with that but not on our own 10 or so. At least do it once you are past the 35

As an opposing fan, I would be worried if the Saints did this. Same with the Rams.

Honestly, yeah I think it would mostly work. Every time a team goes for it on 4th down against us I get this bad feeling in my stomach and so much stress knowing they'll convert which is so heart-wrenching after a great stop on 3rd down. I imagine all other fanbases and teams would feel this way every time Saints go for it on 4th.

In most situations....we could adopt this...but Morestead is such a weapon putting teams back. Life is good as a Saints fan right now when this is what we are talking about :).

Don't underestimate the psychological aspect of it either. A defense gets a 3rd down stop and they are pumped up and celebrating only to realize the punt team or fg team isn't coming in and then give up the 1st on 4th down and have to do it all over again. Now its in the defenses head throughout the game. You do it multiple times and the defense, even a great defense is demoralized.

Oddly, it's a shame because Morstead is a weapon. I guess you can't have too many weapons. I love it when he pins the opposing team inside their 10.

One thing that put us over the top I think is that 20 play drive to begin the game. That plus consistently running probably wore their defense out to the point that they simply could not stop this offense from scoring by the 4th quarter.

You have to do yards per game, since we played one fewer game.

The Rams are 7th, Minnesota 11th, we're 18th.

Also can't ignore that the Rams were able to get fat against some abysmal offenses.

These are two good teams here. But I don't see why we should not be confident playing either team anywhere.
