New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Akiem Hicks will always remember former defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo as his first NFL mentor. But Hicks has quickly learned the business of the NFL and isn't shying away from the Saints' new defensive direction as the team is in the beginning stages of transforming from a 4-3 defensive scheme to a 3-4 set.

"It's really a tough thing to experience," Hicks said Wednesday at a press conference for the NFL's Play 60 program in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. "You become family after a while. I know we were only together for a year, but I came in here and that was my guy and now he's gone.

"I guess that's just part of the business of the NFL. There's a lot of turnover and change, but he's always going to be a guy that I look up to as he was my first teacher in the NFL. I'll miss him, but we'll move on."
