Agree completely. Don't see why teams are incentivized to not pay their players and let them leave. To keep the NFLPA happy, they could simply add an 8th round to the draft. They need to do away with compensatory picks.
Not quite correct, as we had begun to, but I suspect the injury crises might have forced the FO's hand a little in terms of signings this year.Saints don’t value picks like some teams so we don’t try to game the system.

That’s exactly why the comp system was added at the same time free agency was added.I think it’s intended to be an “Ok, we will do this open free agency and salary cap thing you guys want but teams that lose free agents need to be given some sort of way to be compensated for grooming and losing a player for someone else’s benefit” thing.
I.E. “Compensatory” picks.
But many of those "losses" are by choice. NE used to do a great job at it. Instead of paying your own, let them go and get rewarded for doing so. Very antiquated system. Made sense in the beginning, but not any longer. It has become a financial game.I think it’s intended to be an “Ok, we will do this open free agency and salary cap thing you guys want but teams that lose free agents need to be given some sort of way to be compensated for grooming and losing a player for someone else’s benefit” thing.
