Still: “I don’t think it goes on as much as it did in the past, but I’m sure it does happen,” he argues.

As proof of their beliefs, both Bauder and Tuohy could only speculate on possible scenarios and offer circumstantial evidence. They remain undeterred nonetheless. “People say, ‘Prove it.’ I’m sorry, I can’t prove it,” Tuohy says. “But if [game fixing] has happened once in the past five years or 10 years, because the league wants to further a certain story line, then the league has no integrity.

“All I have to do is be right once, and then I’m right across the board.”

thats the hard part. proof. i no doubt believe nfl is rigged to an extent. not every game/every call. but just like we saw in the saints game, no doubt was something up with the calls.

I can and will always believe that the NFL is interfered with. Much like TLL.

But... so, for the sake of argument, let's just say the NFL is rigged. straight up. I get that they'd want LA to get some traction in their region. The NFL has always lusted after that. But there's an unlimited amount of years to make that happen. Literally.

But for one year, the league had the opportunity to have a GOAT vs GOAT superbowl... Brees vs Brady checks every single box. Everyone of them. How hard would that be to sell? Then next year, you have the young-guns... the next-gen QBs in the spotlight.

So as much as I believe that the league "tilts" things, for the life of me, I can't figure out why they'd do it the way they did it. I'm being as objective as possible here. Either it's not rigged or the league shot-callers are dumb as bricks. (Well, in my life, I've had a huge peak behind the curtain of the "country music world"... So the shot-callers not being all that intelligent isn't all that foreign of an idea for me.)

If it's not fixed... the Refs blew it. If it is fixed... the league blew it.

I think a lot of the game influence really came into play noticeably in 2001. We had the 9-11 events happen and who won the Super Bowl that year? The “PATRIOTS” of course. It was a team name everyone could get behind and bring us together, United in a cause. Even when Drew Bledsoe went down with an injury, in steps this scrawny little guy, a 7th round pick from the University of Michigan named Tom Brady who miraculously brings the Pats to the Super Bowl and defeats the GSoT! ?

IMO this is when the league became much bolder with their influencing of games. If they could take a certain team to the SB and get them the win, what all else could they do?

The more I accept the fact that the NFL is rigged, the more I feel as if my girl just left me. It hurts to the same degree. Sitting here for two weeks now trying to convince myself that she’s coming back.

It started smelling fishy the year Ray Lewis announced his retirement during preseason and the Ravens won the Super Bowl. And of course the story all year was about Lewis and what he had overcome and going out on top, yada, yada.

Don't forget about the first NFL week after 9/11 we played the Giants at the Meadowlands. I remember the BS offensive pass interference that occurred in the end zone and took away a TD to win the game. It just seemed "right" that the NY fans had something to cheer about after all the tragedy that recently took place.

glad i am not the only one who remembered that. i remember thinking during that game 'no way the saints come out with a win today' and i was right. one way or the other, NY was going to win that game

I've thought about this and utilized nearly identical logic as you, but with one exception. I don't think the NFL was focused on a 1-year time frame (but if they did, I think you're spot on!) I think the NFL was contemplating the length of time Stan Kroenke will be making payments on the debt service of his $5B multi-event venue. No NFL stadium, nor NFL ownership, has ever gone belly-up; but no one has ever spent more than $2B on a new stadium. Kroenke was a minority owner who recently purchased a majority stake of the Rams, and is now spending what is reported to be in excess of $5B for his stadium/complex. That is MORE THAN DOUBLE the price of the 2nd most expensive stadium (the Atlanta Spincter-dome?). I believe the NFL will do "whatever it takes" to make sure their 1st failure doesn't occur in the 2nd largest media market in the country!

With that said, a 1-year hit of the most amazing Superbowl matchup EVER...GOAT vs. GOAT...doesn't do much for the NFL over that time period of debt service. They NEED the Rams to engage with LA and they NEED that LA money to flow to the NFL until that debt service gets reduced to a more typical level. And the way to do that is to cultivate the next generation of young fans and start selling them Goff, Gurley, Donald, & Suh jerseys...and any other FA "stars" the Rams can afford to buy. And maybe I'm wrong, but I think they'll sell MORE suites in that stadium by losing the SB than they would've sold if they had won. If the Rams had won, there's no "upside" to purchasing fandom. But with losing the SB, there's the opportunity to get in now, and to claim you supported the team "before they were champs." I can almost hear the sales pitch now... But that's JMO...

I am confused at the exact same thing.

I think we all just figured the NFL out ,I was at that Giants GAME IN 911 REFS WOULD NOT LET THE SAINTS WIN THAT GAME NO WAY IN HELL.

I’ve had em figured out. Just had hoped I was wrong. And I also hoped that they would love the appeal of two old Goats going at it.

The young buc QB’s will be around. Brady and Brees are about to ride off into the sunset. So I was wrong on that being appealing enough to the NFL, to allow the Saints in.

If it's not fixed... the Refs blew it. If it is fixed... the league blew it.
Frankly I believe they BOTH blew it.
The refs blew it by their incompetence.
The league blew it by allowing a few incompetent officials to bring down a multi-billion dollar empire and not doing more to demonstrate that their actions were wrong and will be corrected both now and in the future.

All this ensured that the world of football fans would have to endure a tainted and deplorable SuperBowl game. It was the worst business decision since CocaCola tried to push a new recipe on the paying public.

And similarly, the people ain't buying it. :jpshakehead:

Yep.
However it went down, and rest assured something did as you allude to.

This lifelong fan ain’t buying it. I don’t blindly (figuratively as I am quite literally blind lol) follow what’s force fed to me as the undisputed truth.

I have a brain, and I question all. One way or another they lost my trust, and my wallet. And I don’t care if it doesn’t have any impact on the league. It will have a positive impact on my life and I’ll know I’m doing the right thing. For me.
I also took about 50 fans with me, and did not ask them to follow me. They agree and chose what I’ve chosen of their on volition.

As all fans will do such for themeselves, and I respect that.

F the shield. Today, tomorrow, and into eternity. I will never forgive, nor will I forget. And that is not typed in anger. Just resolute finality.
