Man, wouldn't it be nice to see these two step up and take positions on this line? Young look pretty good at the end last year at RT. Saldiveri took an injury season, but was a 4th round pick. If either of these two would step it up, that would take alot of heat off whoever the Saints draft ay OT this year and on the OLine in general.

It could save the Saints a first round pick and allow them to take the best overall player if they feel comfortable with Young right now. They could take Texas RT Christian Jones in the 2nd or trade up for him in the 3rd. Then also re-sign RT Cam Erving.

Saldiveri has the higher ceiling than Young. Good athleticism for LG in* the zone scheme. He was viewed as starter upside during the draft.

I think we still have to select an offensive lineman high.

Regardless of the skill on the roster, we have little to no depth behind them. Offensive / Defensive lines get beat up pretty easily; asking them to play a full season is a stretch.

Young and Saldiveri were the depth, now assuming to thrust into starting roles.

Yeah, that's the beauty of the O-line situation. It's a weak unit at the moment because of development...not due to age. There's a ton of potential w/ the entire unit as mostlyl everyone on it is under 27 years of age. Saints have stated they are high on both and they should be able to compete for snaps.

get out of here with that nonsense

It would definitely be a plus if those two stepped up. It would be an even bigger plus if Penning developed into a starting level OL regardless of which OL position it is. It's kind of hard to believe that he couldn't make the leap after two years of development and all the God-given physical tools he came with.

I am curious as to whether the mid-1st round OTs are more "NFL ready" or if they're just high potential guys in need of developing. Haven't followed draft profiles this season. I just haven't had the time to really deep dive like I usually do.

It’ll be interesting to see what Dan Roushar can do with what they currently have versus what little Doug Marrone did with most those same players. If Roushar can develop Young and Saldiveri (along with whoever they draft) then the Saints OL could improve rapidly. Unfortunately for Roushar he isn’t going to be able to do much with Ramczyk’s potentially career ending knee and Penning looking like a career backup at best. If he can salvage anything from Penning Roushar will have earned his paycheck. Penning seems to be a player with no position - He’s too lumbering and slow footed to be a NFL OT and he’s basically too tall to effectively play OG in the pros. So “Tackle Eligible” seems to be his ceiling. If one of the top LTs are available in the first the Saints need to pull the trigger.

I'm not sure what he'll be able to do as the Tulane O-line Coach. John Benton should be able to do a lot with what we have.

The thing is that with the way the draft looks like it will probably unfold with 4-5 QB's and 2-3 WR's a couple Edge guys being taken before us, unless Boweres fall to 14 the BPA may very well end up being an OT

It seems likely that OT is going to be BPA at #14 with the QBs, Bowers, and 3 WRs all going before #14. And it better be because we almost have to draft one. I just hope the right one falls to #14 and not someone who isn't a scheme fit.

Young work a lot with Strief when he was coaching here, style of play very similar.
His game is alot like Streif. He is plenty strong enough. Pretty solid at climb up blocks. Slow footed, will struggle with speed talent. But he always get hurt as a deph player.

Young played LT in college. Saldivari played RT in college. I'd like us to figure out LG. I'm curious what these two could do in their college roles.
