NOF: Saints in position to get under the cap with ease and create another $30+ million in cap space to add new players (3 Viewers)

Interested to see how Ram’s will be restructured

They are going to have to be really careful with that. If he retires and the contract isn't restructured to take account for that, it's going to be an issue. The problem is that they likely won't know for quite some time if he is going to be able to continue to play and at what level. It will probably take a few months for him to get all the medical opinions he needs.

The method works. We simply use cap space from the future while other teams use current cap space, however some teams are starting to catch on to what we do.

It’s the same difference, same challenges, just annoying cosmetics to people that aren’t following the accounting closely or seeing that other teams have the same problems we do, just from a different circumstance since they’re confining themselves to singular years.

We just need to get better at WHO we are paying and selecting in drafts.

The books will be a lot cleaner by 2026 though.

I know what it does....I don't agree with it - but it is what it is

The list of players that would need to be restructured is pretty insane. If these were our core guys for the future it would be one thing, but that isn't what this list is.

Cam Jordan is old and declining, Demario is old, Ramczyk is broken, AK and maybe even McCoy could be some of the malcontents from mid-season. A large part of the fanbase really dislikes Carr and are waiting for his 2025 release. Ruiz has been shaky at best. MT and Jameis will not be back. Peat might come back, but was benched to start the season and may want to see what else is out there for himself.

That is a long list of restructures you don't really want to see in my opinion.

The only one in that 2nd group we should extend is Peat. Thomas and Winston need to go.
Would we really extend Ram? That seems crazy to me.
Cam and DD are/were great but how much longer will they be effective? It seems risky to me especially for Cam.
Taysom is getting up in age too but he (like DD) doesn't show signs of decline.

It’s not as much space as it appears, we only have 39 players under contract so there goes roughly $13-14m just to fill the openings.

Then you need a practice squad, and need to factor in practice squad elevations as well as signing IR replacements, there's another ~$10m.

So with max restructures we're looking at less than $10m in space to push towards contracts in excess of league minimums, and our early draft picks will earn less than the minimum, so that's even less space.

What do you not agree with though? How does it affect you if the team elects to cut a bonus check today for a player they know they want to keep for a cap space restructure rather than pay it over the course of a season?
Because at the arse end of it you're ultimately sticking yourself with a high priced player through their inevitable decline....and keeping them on the cap for years when they're off the roster.

It cripples our flexibility

Yeah, although if you wanted to keep up with this method, you could make the first year base of those deals small.

I’m not advocating that at all. Not anymore.

Bottom line: we need to get better at drafting. It’s killing the roster more than anything else.

That’s debatable.

Demario just made an all-pro team and is a core player. I’ll give you Ram and Jordan.

McCoy is a keeper. MT, Jameis, and Peat are not restructures and are just added to you post for the effect.

I promise you though that we aren’t the only team on the planet stuck with a 3-4 contracts we don’t like. “Healthy” cap teams get stuck with deals too, because otherwise, they wouldn’t remain “healthy” since in this context “health” coincides with not using your future space.
