Powerful is a subjective term, so I'm not sure what you specifically mean.It's a very powerful tool if you know how to use it.
Current consumer AI apps can be very useful. I use different AI tools for various reasons; converting notes into a rough draft, assisting in writing complex equations for Excel, simple program scripting, and photo and video editing. It's basically a real fast assistant when I already know what I need done, but don't want to spend the time doing it myself.
None of them are truly intelligent, not even artificially. They can't actually think yet. If you give them contradictory information, they aren't capable of figuring out what's accurate and not accurate on their own. All they can do is tell you they have contradictory information and repeat it to you. The only learning they are capable of is advanced mimicking.
