I think a good blocking TE would benefit Brees and Bush. If would allow Brees to be better protected from the outside rush, and it would allow Bush to hit the outside more often. It would be an obvious positive if he could catch well too.

Give the man some credit.

This was the point of my post, that because we didn't have a guy who can stretch the field and catch passes at the TE position he went with blocking help. Which we needed anyway because of our Oline. Grant it they have been a nice surprise, but maybe it's because we have an extra guy(TE) to block.

I guess I wasn't clear, Payton is a great evaluator. It's nice to see us have someone like that leading our team.

I basically agree with your premise. However, effectively taking away the Tight End as a pass catching option hurts the red zone offense. When you can not stretch the field, the windows the QB can throw through and get positive results get aweful small. Therefore it is better to have as many windows as possible. A good tight end also has the benefit of increasing his window size just with his size and strength, i.e. he can catch the ball in traffic.

Keep the blocking tight ends in until you get inside the twenty. Go to a big receiving corps in the red zone.

Good point about the red zone target. People are starting to realize though that we have a great red zone target in Colston. But yes it would be nice to have another big guy down there that can catch

I guess my point from me saying, "Get over it with this we need a TE who can catch," is that we have bigger needs than a TE. I think we need at least 1 CB, youth at DT before we address the need at TE.
