Supposedly, they added Punk to push his feud with Seth. There's also the rumor floating (not sure from the sheets or not) that the favor owed is that if Punk fails to get a Mania slot, he takes Roman's, which is all but guaranteed. Take that with a grain of salt.

I don't buy that, and it just sounds like a terrible idea( the Mania slot thing). The favor could be something as easy as, if Roman is Champ then Punk gets a shot. Or even better, Punk helped Roman with his problem, now Roman has to help take Seth, which would make a nice Seth vs Roman feud.
