I hadn't thought about it much so far, but he must be doing something right. After the bears game those boys had taken a loss that can leave any team deflated. Yet the Saints came out the next week and executed near perfectly. Sure they played a college team, but we all know the Saints win or lose the game themselves.

I think that also goes to the leadership in the lockerroom. Drew Brees especially.

I can't measure anything from the Detriot game. Now this week, we'll see what we are made of. Game means nothing except to get nine wins. No one wants to go through off season with an injury and that might factor in, but they get paid to play football, We'll see which players think you are suppose to earn your money. We already know Smith thinks you get it and then quit.

Listen, Detroit has been in just about every game they've played this season, often carrying leads into the fourth quarter. The whole college team thing is used upon looking at the record, and without any knowledge in how they got to 0-15. If they had a quarterback they probably would have won 6 games at the very least.

I would like to see the Saints get just credit for absolutely blowing out a team who had alot to play for (avoiding a dubious place in history) and who has taken some very good teams right down to the wire this season.

It was just a light hearted joke. I agree with you, they've been competitive in games and had much worse luck than us. I was even a little worried before the game, they'd been looking (relatively) better and better as the season went on.

On-team leadership is key to any successful team. We need it on Defense and our Offensive line IMO

From what I gathered reading Lions comments and all the predictions from the pundits the Lions were kinda pumped up because we looked like a possible win for them. We deflated those aspirations quickly.

Last week meant nothing except to get to 8 wins, yet they took care of business and did so convincingly. And let's not forget, a lot of people (on this board and nationally) were predicting a Saint loss. Personally, I think you can measure a great deal from that game.

I wish there had been a little more leadership at the beginning of the Bears game, when the team looked like it was mailing its performance in. I do give credit to Payton, though, for getting his team to play hard after losses, like after they went 0-4 last season and managed to scrape back to .500.

people were saying the same things about hasletts teams... so payton better step up to the plate next year. no playoffs 3 years in a row is unacceptable.

Agreed. Especially with the talent on the offensive side of the ball. I think we've been a little too accepting in the past with Mora and Haslett. We were so used to not being competitive that we've (and the front office) settled for simply being competitive.

I like competitive, no doubt! competitive is a good thing but you have to turn the corner into being a contender. We've been a contender only one year in the last 18 and that was in 2006. Partially because the NFC was so weak. I'd like to think that we were contenders in the late eighties and early nineties but the fact is that we couldn't even win a playoff game. We let the Vikings, Eagles, Bears and Falcons beat us when it counted. In 2006 we were actually in the NFC Championship and were threatening the Bear lead deep into the third quarter before missing that Field Goal.

Being contenders 1 year in 18 just isn't fair to the fans. Having said all that, I find myself believing that Sean Payton will get us over that hump....I don't have any basis other than blind faith right now....but I do believe!

Very good post, and I agree.
I don't agree with diat about us saying the same things about Haslett's teams. Many of us felt that Haslett's teams were undisciplined on the field and sometimes in the locker room as well. Many games were mailed in under Haslett.... I don't see our team under Payton not winning one of those last games in December 2002 to make the playoffs.
