Games all over the league are being overrun with penalties. I'd bet half the games this week have 20+ penalties, it's crazy. Most of these are defensive holding and questionable pass interference penalties. The games are just becoming so hard to watch.

Even the redzone channel is struggling to show games that aren't at commercial break or having refs huddle up to discuss a penalty and it's week 2 with no byes.

Yea, they are calling defensive holding a lot more(except on Richard Sherman), and are giving the receivers too many calls their way.

A lot of PI calls were both of them fighting for position, in that case, it's a no-call.

The Kyle Fuller call was real real close.

It's bad when every positive play call an offense has the announcers have to insure people there isn't a flag on the play.

In relation to today's game, Kenny Vacarro's personal foul was ridiculous. He clearly wrapped up and was not maliciously going at the knees.

Yea, that was a little ticky-tack.
The QB hit rules these days are ridiculous. Jameis Winston won't get hurt like that anytime soon.

Agreed bclemms, its time to re-evaluate a lot of the rules of the game. Eliminate the ticky-tack penalties and allow more contact on both sides of the ball.

I'll bet they could eliminate 30% of the rule book altogether and it would still be an exciting game.

agree

"A rushing defender is prohibited from forcibly hitting in the knee area or below a passer who has one or both feet on the ground, even if the initial contact is above the knee. It is not a foul if the defender is blocked (or fouled) into the passer and has no opportunity to avoid him.

Note 1: A defender cannot initiate a roll or lunge and forcibly hit the passer in the knee area or below, even if he is being contacted by another player.

Note 2: It is not a foul if the defender swipes, wraps, or grabs a passer in the knee area or below in an attempt to tackle him."

I have to watch two games at a time now, just because there are some many commercials and in my area it isn't great big commercials, it's local boring ones. It's just a watered down game, but Jerseys and beers at games are at an all time high.

Feels like we are losing the game we love, loved.

Agreed. I gave up trying to watch the Dallas - Philly game.

I thought the PI call on Browner in the endzone was also pretty weak. He did not look for the ball and he did make contact, but the contact did not effect the receiver at all. :idunno:

44 penalties called between the Saints and Cowboy games and there is still over 8 minutes left in the Cowboys/Eagles game. These aren't including decline penalties either.

Edit: Flag down

23 accepted penalties today in the Dolphins/Jags game.

25 accepted penalties today in the Bills/Pats game.

26 accepted penalties today in the Ravens/Raiders game.

17 accepted penalties in Thursday's Broncos/Chiefs game.

20 accepted penalties today in the Panthers/Texans game.

21 accepted penalties today in the Saints/Bucs game.

22 accepted penalties today in the Bears/Cardinals game.

Many of these games are still going.

That's the problem with that rule. You have these big quarterbacks like Winston, Newton, Roethlisberger. You are always taught to tackle low on a bigger guy that you but now the NFL has nixed that. So this puts smaller safeties/corners at a huge disadvantage when trying to tackle these guys.

Been talking about this for years but it has never gotten this bad. Let's just call this what it is. It's a league that wants as much if not more control over the outcome of the game than the players do. Makes it really hard for the fan.
