Perspective - Health of entire team aside, if DA was merely our defensive coordinator, he’d likely be getting fired over the mini-bye (1 Viewer)

2 blown leads in the final seconds and 2 blow outs. As a defense guy he isn't bringing anything to the table. He's a career .350 coach.

He seems like a decent guy, he isn't acting like a clown when things go bad like Ditka did and if I were some other team that needed a DC in the off season I'd give him a call.

Yeah there's been injuries, he had 3 games in 10 days with Mahomes in the middle and his QB and center got hurt. That's adversity. I don't blame him for that. But the guy before him had adversity too in the form of a city nuked by God and got them into the championship game. It's getting to be time to move on.

Problem is, is even if we were to go on a 5 game win streak, I don’t know if the D can be trusted in crunch time.

During the preseason, my prediction for the season was 5-12.
Now that it's trending that way, it feels somewhat nightmarish to me...like the 60s, 70s, early 80s and Ditka era Saints.

We could've gone full rebuild after Payton left, but Loomis decided to reload the roster and hire DA as HC (from within the previous coaching staff)

That move probably pushed us back several years in getting back to respectability.
A normal team can go full rebuild. I repeat a normal team can go full rebuild. But we can’t, and it’s due to our odd way of cap management. What compounds the issue is what coach would want to come here with this cap situation and roster full of very old vets? It’s a recipe for disaster if you’re a coach. I think that’s why ML feels compelled to keep the staff as is. All that to say, hire a HC that isn’t afraid of this situation and has an ability to motivate scrub players while
we reset the cap

We can have a normal cap by 2026 as long as they don't do anything dumb. In the meantime you gather as many draft picks as possible and use them to try to draft good players that you want to use that cap space on for 2026 and beyond.

that sounds all well and good. But what kind of team do you field in 2025 and 2026? Because i think you're talking about the 2027 team, that will have a clean cap?
