Queen Elizabeth II (Update: the Queen has passed) (1 Viewer)

I feel strangely emotional. I'm not really an anglophile and have no real interest in the royals. I know her position was complicated and included some of the nastiness of the 20th Century.

But she was the Queen for 21 years before I was even born, and my kids know who she is. It's quite remarkable and I feel like some little part of the world that I know, the world that has been in place my whole life, has passed on into history.

It's sad in its own way. The UK will be in mourning and I send my sympathies to the nation and all who treasured Queen Elizabeth II as their monarch, whether in law, tradition, or simply in their own hearts.

I couldn't have said it better and feel exactly the same.

One heck of a ride, amazing.

I did see her in '97 in Edinburgh. I had completed the Royal Mile and as I was by the front gate of HolyRood, she was headed out in chauffer driven Bentley. There were maybe 5-10 of us there and she had the back window down and gave the queen wave... Was kinda cool. I've known a number of Brits and Scots and the vast majority have never seen her... Pure luck on my part.

interesting this for UK is that there is a goodly chunk ready to mothball the monarchy
those voices were on pause while nature took its course, now i think they're about to have a BIG conversation about this

Well said.

I have found it somewhat ironic that so many Americans are anglophiles, especially where the monarchy is concerned.

She drove a truck and was a mechanic during WWII

By all accounts a kind soul. I don't really follow the royal family but Meghan Markle said the only person who was nice to her was the Queen Mother. Queen Elizabeth you will be missed. Peace and Blessings on your Journey.

I think they should mothball it. Always go out on a high note. Charles.... will not be a high note.
