If you win... yes you get the division title and get to host a playoff game (against the defending champion Saints).

However... an 8-8 or 7-9 playoff team really loses longterm in my eyes. Come April (should there be a NFL Draft)... you will end up slotted with the 12 playoff teams... meaning there are 2 10-6 teams (TB, NYG)... 1 9-7 (SD)... and for Seattle, who would pick with playoff teams as a 7-9, 2 8-8 teams (JAX, OAK). That's potentially 3 to 5 draft spots lost by making the playoffs for the NFC West winner, who will at best be .500.

Do you want the title and playoff berth and maybe miss out on a player you want to a team you should be drafting in front of in the draft or want to miss the playoffs to maybe get that player?

I ask this question b/c on our game broadcast today Jim (I think it was Jim anyway) mentioned that Seattle media asked fans whether they wanted win and playoffs or loss and draft position and Jim said it was overwhelmingly loss and draft position.

Man, that's surprising. I'd like to think our fanbase would overwhelmingly pick playoffs, if we were in this situation.

No way you want to play to lose a game. If their Front Office couldn't do a better job, even a #1 pick wouldn't make them any better.
well duh... as herm edwards famously said... you play to win the game.

doesn't mean the fans can't ask for a loss for better positioning elsewhere

Im sure any sensible fan would prefer the playoff birth. Arz won it a few years ago out of the West, so anything can happen. Only a chump roots against their team IMO in any circumstance. Unless your Pete Rose. (joke of course)

Any team or fan base who would be more worried about their draft positioning over a playoff berth wouldn't derserve a spot in the post season IMHO.

Seriously? The Seattle fans voted that way? Seriously?

If that's their attitude, they deserve to lose.

Larry Burton, Alvin Toles, Shawn Knight, Johnathan Sullivan--yeah, much better to play for draft position.

Didn't they get a good draft position last year? I would think at this point most fans just want to win. Draft position would be the very last thing on my mind. I'd want the playoff berth every single time.

I never understood rooting for your team to lose in order to move up in the draft. That's just stupid. Look at Detroit. Yeah, they get good picks, but by the time they assemble an entire team worthy of playoff contention - their earlier picks are gonna be retired...

For years the Saints got neither one. We'd do well enough to almost get into the playoffs but not bad enough to get a good draft pick lol.

There will be a draft regardless of the CBA situation. It is the final event of the current cba.
