I’m wondering why we didn’t lock him up for longer? If he does well in KK’s system he’s just going to be that much more expensive to sign later on. If they can work him in space, I think he could have close to Deebo type numbers.
I think he probably wants to have a breakout year and then get that absolutely crazy WR money. I hope he stays long term, he's my favorite receiver on the team.I’m wondering why we didn’t lock him up for longer? He’s going to kill it with the new kickoff rules and in a new offense. Glad they got something done.
Can’t. He’s confined to his tender rights currently, with his last tender rights coming next year at the first round RFA tender level (this new deal pays him just under that).
This is merely a formality to lock in his $$$ for protection in case he gets hurt this year. He likely has a promise from the team to do right by him next offseason, if he earns it.

A 1st round tender this year is 6.8M and a 2nd round tender is 4.8. Next year this goes up to 7M and 5M. So it looks like we basically signed for 200k over his estimated 2025 2nd round tender of 5M this year. Shaheed gets bonus money this year plus 200k (plus interest/gains on that money) and was going to be playing here in 2025 anyway. He will enter 2026 as a FA and cash in. Saints have less worry about him breaking out being headache in the off-season over money while still costing less than the 1st round tender. Seems like a great deal for everyone.
It's more of a raise than an extension, he still have to prove himself as a perennial player worthy of an extension, he is still an acending player. (IMHO)Weird to see a 1 year extension for a 25 year old
