First of all sorry I had to start a new thread but with all of the other crazy threads breaking down guys we more than likely will not get is driving me nuts. I know their must be more than one member here who like me does not think Briggs, A Thomas, Graham, Samuels, or Clements is going to come here this season. Learning from the track record of this team I would guess that most of us deep down would agree that this off season will go something like this....

Our FA: http://www.theredzone.org/2007/freeagents/showteam.asp?Team=Saints
Resign Clark, Copper, Deloatch, Groce, Lake, Melton, Miller, Stinch, and HT
Franchise Grant and try to work on the deal.

Bring in Edwards, Hood, Crayton, and Eric Johnson.
We would all love to have Clem, Sam and Briggs but is just NOT going to happen

Draft
This gives us the ability to draft the best player in the draft at any position from WR CB MLB DT or TE and not force anything. Does anyone else agree with me on this?

That would be a decent offseason but we'll just have to see. There's no way to tell until it happens.

Crayton is like the Chris Horn move last season......if he works out great if not send him packing and make sure we have enoough depth to do so.

Copper has potential. I know that is a bad word, but he is about 3 years younger than Crayton.

Copper and Crayton both have 3 years of NFL experience, that's why both are RFAs this offseason. I like Copper too, and think that he has potential.... but the reason he's here is because Crayton outplayed him in Dallas.

I agree with your picks for re-signing, w/ the exception of Groce and Danny Clark (I don't think he'll re-up with us).
I kinda like your FA additions, but I think the Cowboys are going to give Crayton a high tender. I'm also not a fan of the injury-prone Eric Johnson... I'd rather Donald Lee be brought in at TE (he's cheap, fast, young, and a good blocker). I'm also holding out hope that we'll make a play for one of the bigger names out there.
Best case scenario would be for us to enter the draft in a position to just draft BPA throughout.

Danny Clark made 2 million last year to ride the pine. I don't see him in Black and Gold next year, especially if we bring in someone like Edwards.

-I could definately live with Lee, I just figured that we always get TE's that are not injury prone and the get that way maybe a injury prone guy would stay healthy.
-With the new coaching staff I think Crayton may want to leave plus who would want to play with TO.
-I guess their is a possibility that we could make a play for one big FA hopefully a CB but I doubt that we will.

I think it's a good posiblilty, but I really thing they will target a Top FA CB before a top LB'er.

The guys we have in the middle of the defense are servicable, the guy's at CB are not. They are major weak links.

Example:

It does no good to mount a million dollar 14K gold Ship bell on a ship with a big hole in the bottom of it.

Really? What makes your described offseason any more "realistic" than say someone predicting the Saints signing Briggs, Samuels, and Clements? I mean really? Last year, we targetted Drew Brees, Will Witherspoon, and Scott Fujita, among others, and later brought in Javon Walker before the draft for a visit. Shall I remind you that less than a year ago, we began an offseason that netted us Drew Brees, Scott Fujita, and Reggie Bush. Did any of those guys seem like a "realistic" possibility on February 13th of last year? If this year as shown Saints fans anything, it's that we don't know what to expect and our dreams can finally be considered realistic, no matter how badly Saints fans would like to digress. Furthermore, great players attract other great players and the world is aware of Reggie, Deuce, and Drew.

So, here's my "realistic" offseason...

Saints sign.....

CB Nate Clements
TE Daniel Graham
LB Donnie Edwards
WR Kevin Curtis

Saints release...

WR Joe Horn
CB Fred Thomas

Saints draft...

1) CB D. Hughes (Cal)
2) LB J. Beason (Miami)
3) DT K. Brown (Miami)

My turn... (realistic of course)

Saints sign...
DE Charles Grant (re-sign)
DT Terdell Sands
FS Deon Grant
CB Roderick Hood
TE Donald Lee

Saints release...
CB Fred Thomas
P Mitch Berger
TE Ernie Conwell

Saints Draft...
1.) OG Justin Blalock
2.) LB Jon Abbate
3.) QB Troy Smith
4.) RB Lorenzo Booker
4.) CB Ryan Smith
4.) DT Ola Dagunduro
5.) WR Jacoby Jones

I doubt the Saints will make a move for either of the top 2 corners. They will be each looking to take almost 20 mil in cap space for 07 themselves.

that is the most realistic list I have seen up to this point.

i think there is no chance of getting samuals or clements. in fact i think neither is worth the price they will demand. i think d edwards is a long shot too.

So you would be comfortable with McKenzie and Hood as our opening day cornerbacks with virtually no one else behind them?
