This says 21.9M http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2762784 I know it seems like I am splitting hairs but 3 or 4 mil this season may be a lot when you consider our draft picks will require less money. Besides even if we have 25 M and we tag Grant and sign 1 big name thats going to put us somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 to 17 M so we would only be under by 10M max. I am just trying to figure out how we expect to sign all these high profile players and still not blow all the cap before the Draft. PS What will it save us if Horn Thomas Craft and Conwell all got cut?

Joes deal was 6 years 42 million with 7 million in signing bonus. That was in 2005. The contract is only 2 years old. So essentially Joe still has about 4.5 million of signing bonus on the books. However his salary this year is about 4.5 million. I am not sure of all the particulars but if cut his salary would be off the books and his remaining signing bonus would be spread out over this year and next (this is what I am unsure off what percentage is spread over each year).

Frankly, prior to free agency last year, I would have bet my house that Drew Brees would not be signed by the Saints. Nor would I have even entertained the idea that the Texans would pass on Reggie Bush and he would be a Saint.

See? You guys coulda had my house.

This is how I see the Saints offseason going -

They re sign Charles Grant, Jon Stinchcomb,, Billy Miller and Hollis Thomas. Fred Thomas and Joe Horn get cut due to their cap numbers.

They sign Donnie Edwards as MLB. They bring in 2-4 FA CBs like they did Safeties last offseason. They make a run at one big name corner (Samuels or Clements).

They draft BPA due to filling holes through FA. They are also fluid in the draft willing to move up or down depending on what's offfered and who they've targeted. I for one won't surprised if they package picks to move up in the draft to grab an impact player. Look for Payton to pick up a late round or UDFA QB to groom.

I think your scenario Ti Rider, would be a good possibility.

it looks like they're gonna tag grant, so i really see them signing a starting CB, a starting DT, and (maybe - i'm still not sure what's the deal with clark) edwards... outside of that, i don't expect much in FA (but that would be fine in my book)... in the draft i honestly see them trading their #1 if (and it's a big if) they can get a 2 and 3 or 2 and 4... if they don't trade, i expect to see them take whichever of these positions grade out the highest: OL, LB, CB, WR

When should we see some movement with our guys that are going to become FA Is it just me or should we have locked up somme of our guys by now? Stinch HT and Grant are the biggest FA's now that we signed Shanle IMO

So, excuse me for being dense but, what do the guys who are UFA's do now? Do they just hang out and hope that someone signs them? Are they frantically searching for a team? About how many of them will actually get signed? If they don't, is their NFL career just over?

Well it is a case by case basis. If you can say some names then we can give you insight. It really just depends on the player. If they are good enough they will be resigned by us. If not, there is a good chance that someone will take a look at them but making the 53 man roster for another team just really depends.
