Reasons for Believing in 2024! Come get your Crow! (1 Viewer)

The Saints SOS in 2022 was tied for 7th. We played the 1st seed Eagles, 2nd Seed Niners, 3rd Seed Vikings, 4th Seed Bucs and 7th Seahawks from the NFC. We played the 3rd Seed Bengals and 6th seed Ravens from the AFC. Went 2-7 against playoff teams.

In 2023 we had the easiest SOS. We went 1-6 against playoff teams. The highest seeded play off team we faced was the 3rd seed Lions. This does not even factor in the luck we had facing so many back up QB's.

We paid Carr 40 million for 2 extra wins with a far easier schedule, I struggle to find any way to paint this as a good season for DA.

Baker Mayfield had a better season more yards, TD's with only 2 more INT's then Carr. He was paid 8 million not 40 million. Andy Dalton in 2022 played 14 games and had 1000 less yards, 6 less TD's . If had played a full 17 games he would have finished we similar stats to Carr's and he had a much worse WR group.

You don't earn the right to call out people on the field until you have accomplished something in the NFL. Carr had issues with his teammates handle it like a pro in the locker room.

Starting to have doubts yes.

Almost counts for nothing. The fact is we missed the playoffs.

TO is always about variance, this stat has zero impact on what will happen next year.

I would worry more about the massive gaps in the OLine and Dline that needed to be filled. In fact this team needs a ton of fresh talent at almost every position.

Lutz had a better year, but I agree I feel like Kicker is the least of are worries.

One point you missed was the clear fracture in the locker room and the clear change in culture that has started to happen. DA might not have lost the entire team but he certainly lost players.
Thank you for taking the time to post this point by point breakdown. I pretty much agree with your arguments, but at this stage I’m too mentally and emotionally exhausted to dissect the rotting corpse of this organisation.

To the OP, it’s cool that you’re optimistic, but put it in perspective: we won 9 games, but against who? We were destroyed by any team with a pulse, and even if we got the final scores closer it was mostly through garbage time second halves. This team is not close. They are far from being a competitor, and running full tilt in the opposite direction by the looks of it. Don’t believe blindly, you’ll only set yourself up for disappointment.

Ravenblade….. C’mon
Man!

Exactly what hall of famer did he follow? Andy Dalton? Not Drew he’s been out of the house for two years.

our punter did a great job of positioning the ball inside the 20 this year. Do not blame the punter when your offense backs you up inside the 10 too many times

This thread is for those of us who believe in the team moving forward for 2024. I've been called blind and a "Sunshine Pumper". If you are negative in 2024 that is fine I believe in coach D.A., Derek Carr, and Loomis. Why?

1. This has been D.A.'s best season. Like it or not he has improved. If you are not firing him on 7 wins why 9?
2. Derek Carr had a good season while following a Hall of Famer and was scrutinized from outside and inside the organization. He was roughly the 13-15 highest-paid quarterback and performed as 13-15 best quarterback. Got what we paid for because "Great" quarterbacks do not grow on trees. He got in the face of wide receivers running wrong routes, and offensive linemen missing blocks. AND? I like it.
3. Loomis has been part of building a Super Bowl-winning team before. Do you think he lost that? You don't think he wants it again?
4. We missed the playoffs due to 1 game. Pick one of the losses. Green Bay if Carr doesn't get hurt we hold that lead and the victory. Tampa Bay doesn't beat Carolina. Arizona/Chicago wins their last game of the year. Just pick one. Division Champs.
5. We were plus 11 in turnovers. It's not an accident someone is coaching his butt off and Carr was careful regarding the interceptions.
6. We need a new punter.
7. Kicker was good. Some were questioning letting Lutz go. Good move.
Point #5 shows how the inept red-zone offense early in the season totally screwed the season. Teams that are +11 in turnovers generally make the playoffs.

Unrealistic dreams very rarely lead to anything but heartache.

Thinking DA is going to turn around and make a deep playoff run is tantamount to taking your last 20 bucks, buying lottery tickets with it, just KNOWING you were going to hit the jackpot.

If he couldn't do better than 9-8 with the easiest schedule in football, in the worst division in the league, he sure in heck ain't going to do it when things are tougher.

Only thing that really gives me hope is that we're one of the decent average teams this year instead of one of the bad average teams. That being said, the worst team in the league was the Panthers who were really just the worst average team. The team that ends up winning the superbowl next month will definitely be one of the best average teams.

Parity is real in the NFL these days and we're smack dab in the middle of it. So who's to say we can't improve enough over the next 8 months and become one of the better average teams?
While I usually go into a season anticipating a 20/21 game winning superbowl season- my more levelheaded take is that most of the time the season is a dice roll
For every brilliantly designed and executed play, there is a similar lucky bounce play
(And vice versa for negative plays)

Both of my kids are into DnD type games and I’ve come to appreciate that NFL games could easily be replicated by various dice rolls

With the young talented acquired on a offense, even the offense needed an influx we identified and brought in those players, which should give faith that this organization can identify needs and fill them.

I knew we were special end of last season. Changed a few positions unloaded a few people who didn’t agree and we are that team!

That’s right but this does not happen without DA . You put a competent offensive minded coach and let DA put his finger on the defense and you have a hell of a team. I know Carolina is not the test but I’m still in the same mode I was in January.
