I just moved back from a 10-year stint in Texas, and bought a house in Metairie. It has an assumable Flood policy, but I need a hazard policy. 16-year-old house, renovated after Katrina, A-1 flood zone.

Recommendations for companies/agents?

Thanks!

Good luck. I still can't get insurance in Metairie from anyone but the Fair Plan.

Although I have heard there are some companies writing new policies lately. I haven't tried in a while.

He will probably have better luck since the house is relatively new. It's been horrible in Orleans Parish. We are just being transitioned off of Fair Plan to another company (Lighthouse) - but we haven't seen the premiums drop like we're supposed to.

I know AAA was writing policies, but their wind policy was underwritten by Fair Plan (at the same rate) and they paid ACV instead of RCV, so it was actually worse.

Pretty sure AAA is out of Louisiana now - for home insurance at least. I'm still waiting for all the "competition" that's supposed to be lowering our premiums. :(

Sent you a pm. I believe that I can help you

I have homeowners through a place in Florida named Occidental Fire and Casualty. Their rates aren't much cheaper then Citizens but if something happens you get your money a lot sooner. I was told, by my agent, that if another Katrina hit it would be a year before you would see any money from Citizens. I am still on look out for cheaper rates so Pancho if you could send the PM I appreciate the thought.
