Reggie as a punt returner (1 Viewer)

Jackson didn't have a season prior to 2008. Reggie only had 1 (return) fumble in 2007, 0 in 2008 (and 1 in 2006).

exactly my point, your comparing a rookie, to someone who's been a punt returner in the NFL for 3 years.

I think it's been well established the low average is due more to the atrocious blocking.

its not the only reason. There were quite a few times were Bush made very bad decisions catching the ball and being tackled for a loss when he should have done a fair catch. Other times, he was well known for catching the ball and trying to dance instead of running forward for a quick 7-10 yard gain. He would sometimes revert to an all or nothing run style. and alot of times it ended up as nothing, instead of taking what yards you could. You can contribute that to blocking all you like. But the decision on what to do with the ball rest on his shoulders.

There may be a reason why he was returning punts in the Super Bowl, I'd like to know the reason. Its not because he's good at it on average. So if you can let me know the reason, please do.

we could go back and forth all day about this but the bottom line is this.. people who get paid millions of dollars to make the best decisions for the team put Bush at punt returner for the biggest game in the history of the franchise.

that should be reason enough for you.

People who get paid millions of dollars to make the best decisions also sometimes try to run a reverse in an attempt to run out the clock that results in a fumble. Or a reverse on 4th and 3 which results in loss of yards and turnover on downs.

I'm sure you get my point that it doesn't mean they always make the best decisions.

SaintBrad says bench Reggie on punt returns

Sean Payton and Greg McMahon say start Reggie on punt returns

:smilielol:

last season (playoffs included): 31 PR - 242 YDS - 7.8 AVG - 1 TD
career PR numbers (playoffs included): 88 PR - 771 YDS - 8.7 AVG - 5 TD

crazy thread.

I think he had a down year last season as a punt returner. However, he has the potential to be an all pro as a punt returner. He DID break that playoff game wide open against the Cards, with his punt return for a touchdown.

IDK man. Last year was somewhat on par with his 06 and 07 seasons returning punts. His only seemingly solid year returning punts was in 08. And over 100 of those 270 yards came in 1 game against the Vikings. Take that single game away and your left with similar stats as the 06, 07 and 09 seasons, which is of it self, 1 of the worst in the league compared to other teams.

It's abit hard to really know what they want to do with Reggie at PR because the only other option is Moore and for the past two years it's like they've almost never been healthy at the same time....
IMO we should play Moore anytime the other team punt around midfield and use Reggie mostly when he has a long field behind him or when we desperately need a score.

In 08 he had 13.8 and brought back 3 for td's. So maybe it was his injuries or him being extra cautious.

Edit: WTH with the neg reps. I guess you cant be critical of any Saints Player whatsoever in here, eh?

You can be critical of whomever you want. But on that same token, don't get mad just because people don't agree with what you have to say.

I'm not surprised you'll try to leave it at that. Your stats are completely biased forgetting the 3 fumbles from this year, 2 in the previous years ( to match his total of touchdowns), the downtime on offense its caused because of injury, and not to mention his average is not good if you compare it to others who have been doing it for 4 years.

Why not leave it at the fact that Payton wants him as the PR? It's obviously the truth. Sean Payton is a very intelligent, very football-smart coach. If he wants to keep trotting what many are calling a below-average PR out there, you'd have to believe there's a very logical, very intelligence-based reason for that. Pretty simple actually. So I guess take it up with Sean Payton if you really must know the answer.

It wasn't Reggie so much as the blocking, he was getting nailed not long after catching the ball. As soon as starters started blocking on SpT, he broke one.

This and the fact the Reggie doesn't fair catch very often. Most of the other guys, if the coverage team are bearing down on them FC and return when they have room. Reggie returns punts he probably shouldn't because he feels he can make a difference on every touch.

I was going to mention this, but wasn't sure if it was accurate. :9:

I think of Reggie as "high risk, high reward" back there. Use him at PR, but pick your
spots carefully.

Not about agreeing. I just feel you neg rep when someone makes a ridiculous, bad, or absurd thread. I dont ever neg rep anyone I disagree with. I just present my counter point. But I guess everyone doesnt feel the same way.
