Retired Players Struggle to Receive Disability From the League (1 Viewer)

I respect your opinion, but don’t really understand this comment, You don’t take up a dangerous occupation and expect others to pay for your poor decision the rest of your life. What poor decision did he make?

And the players and the league pay commensurately higher premiums because the NFL is dangerous. They’re still entitled to disability benefits

That said, CTE is real. The damage concussions do was not understood when I played my one year in high school. I got my bell rung when I took a knee to the helmet by a teammate. Coach kept me out and luckily it was late in the game. My head hurt for a few days

I got 2 other minor concussions in college from a motorcycle accident and intramural football. I worry to this day about the cumulative effects of those concussions

CTE started being connected to sports in early 2000’s. Not sure if the athletes knew how dangerous it could be. I don’t put anything past the medical profession and the league knowing about it because they’re in it for the money…the quieter things are kept, and the longer its kept quiet works for their pockets.

We can’t forget that the majority of players coming to the league are probably somewhere around 22 yrs old, so for most of them it’s their big ticket. Taking care of their family is probably what’s foremost on their minds.

Seeing and reading things like this makes me somewhat ashamed to support the NFL. I used to cheer for Eddie "Boo" Williams and to see him in this situation makes my heart break. While I know that this could be anyone's fate, I think it especially hurts knowing the guy took so many hard hits. I realize they knew what they were getting into and all that but still, like the NFL should be giving this guy 10K a month for life so he doesn't end up homeless or worse. The NFL makes BILLIONS and they should take care of these foot soldiers.

I still watch the games for entertainment but can’t take the NFL seriously and I stopped buying NFL merch a good while ago…..It’s an evil empire there is no question, the billionaire owners for the most part are evil, narcissistic aholes, look no further than the “commissioner” they keep re-upping, just a puppet to do their bidding…..which is likely what that job will entail from here on out….it’s sad what its become…..
