Clearly there is cause for concern among party-loyal Republicans.
Finally, there is a sign that one of the two major parties is worried about a possible third-party Bloomberg run. The Weekly Standard magazine, the Murdoch-owned bible of the neoconservative movement, has as its latest cover story a cartoon of a diminutive Bloomberg perched in an over-sized, throne-like chair, with the headline: "The Mystery of Michael Bloomberg: Why does a popular but mediocre mayor think he should be President?"

If you look at the link to the polls and scroll down to the Cook Report polling data:

If New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton were the Democratic Party's candidate and
[see below] were the Republican Party’s candidate, and New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg were running as an independent candidate who would you be more likely to vote for: Hillary Clinton, the Democrat, or [see below], the Republican, or Mike Bloomberg, the independent?" If unsure: "As of today, do you lean more toward Clinton, the Democrat, or [see below], the Republican, or Bloomberg, the independent?" Names rotated

Should he and Hagel run an alternative ticket, I'd give them a serious look.

Nurse Bloomberg and Chuck Hagel on the same ticket would be hilarious. And a total disaster.

Someone close to Bloomberg really needs to talk him out of this. There are much better ways to waste 1/5 of your gigantic fortune.

Actually, there is not a better way...if he is looking at boosting his resume. Having "Presidential Candidate 2008 election cycle" has proven to be a very powerful addition. There are some in this race now for that alone.

>>I'm not certain the conservative part of the Republican Party has ever thought much of Mayor Bloomberg. Nothing new here.

It's not about how much they think of him. It's about the news story (and was really posted for Dads Dream since he missed this one). They're attacking him in a left handed way via one of their publications (cover of the Murdoch-owned magazine) to influence their readers and anyone who sees the magazine on a news stand and knows what the mayor looks like.

You don't run for President AND spend $1,000,000,000 or your own money just to boost your resume. You do it because you think you can make a difference. It is no different than when Ross Perot made his run.

My understanding is the Bloomberg is a Social moderate/liberal and a fiscal conservative. I haven't paid too much attention to his work as NY Mayor, but IMO he could end up siphoning more votes from the Democrats than from the Republicans.
