RIP Rickey Henderson (1 Viewer)

I can't really think of any other significant long-running stat category in major sports that has that kind of spread - what would be the closest comparison?
My guess would be some of Wilt Chamberlains basketball stats

My guess was right. Most 50 point games with 118. Michael Jordan is 2nd with 31.

Yes - that's a pretty solid analogy. Some of Wilt's scoring stuff is wild - but that was also a pretty big rule change, so it becomes hard to compare. I don't think there were any truly significant rule changes relating to stealing bases, have there been?

Yes, but you have to go wayyyyyyyyyyyy back. Prior to 1898 if a baserunner took an extra base on a hit he was
credited with a steal. Ie, going from 1st to 3rd on a single.

Cal Ripken

Drew Brees 5000 yd seasons?

Yeah, those are pretty comparable too. Brees is going to get watered down by the extra game, but also it's an arbitrary line (is 4999 yards really meaningfully less significant than 5,000?).

Ripkin's is pretty amazing - especially when you consider that he beat what was already considered an unbreakable record.

Gehrig is 62% over Scott and then Ripkin is 24% on top of that.

I think they tweaked the balk rules at some point, but I don't think that changed the stolen base numbers all that much.
