How do they fit into our scheme?
Rivers - IMO this is a sideline to sideline defender that will take the corner away from the quicker HBs we face consistently. With Fujita at SLB and Vilma at MLB, I see Rivers playing WLB in the NFL where his range, speed and coverage skills can excel.
Shanle is scrappy & instinctive, but Rivers should be able to supplant him in time. The guy is scary fast for a LB and kind of reminds me of a Derick Brooks/Derrick Johnson type LB. He flashes some serious pass rush skills too. If Ellis is off the board, I think this is the SAFEST pick because none of these CBs are solid enough to merit #10.
Ellis - this is the guy I really want. If BAL or NE take him, he will have to play NT in a 3-4 where IMO he will be less effective. If he falls to us, we can line him up as a 3-tech and turn him loose. The experts are comparing Dorsey to Warren Sapp and I'm comparing Ellis to LaRoi Glover. A short, stocky, tank of a lineman...He explodes off the line and does not get juked out by QBs in the pocket. He is a bit short, which is fine with me, He consistently gets under the pads of Centers and Guards. I hope he's there at #10.
Talib - I was high on this guy until I saw some game tape of him being burned by non-NFL caliber WRs. Maurice Purify and Jordy Nelson are NOT Day 1 picks. They both toasted Talib, who some crackheads have us taking at #10. This guy could develop into a shutdown corner because when it comes to leaping and defending the pass, he's one of the best, but he may struggle for several games before adjusting. At 6'2" 200, you would expect a good tackler, but he cuts and shys away from contact, often pushing ballcarriers out of bounds. I see Phillip Buchanon 2.0 and maybe a borderline 1st-2nd round talent. A huge reach at #10.
Jenkins - this guy is intriguing. The game tape shows a man-child that is blessed with 1st round speed, eye-popping recovery skills, and serious elusiveness after the INT, I also noticed he consistently has his back foot planted as the ball comes out of the QB's hands, making a possible INT machine a la Antonio Cromartie. The knock here is that he is undisciplined, unmotivated, and dissapears for parts of some games. He played on a suprisingly good defense and their vicious pass rush may have inflated Jenkins and teammate Trae Williams' numbers. I like his ball skills and I've seen him hit every once in awhile, but he needs to mature in a hurry if he wants to be the next shutdown CB like fellow USF alum Asante Samuel instead of flopping like Ahmad Carroll or Jamar Fletcher.
D. Rodgers-Cromartie - another big question mark and IMO still a reach at #10.
Pros: NFL Bloodlines, Excellent Senior Bowl/Combine Performance
Cons: Lack of NFL caliber competition/lacks focus and bites on pump fakes and play action. This can be coached and his measurables are attractive, I just don't know. This is risky IMO.
