Rizzi: Rattler and Haener will compete in practice to see who starts vs Commanders (7 Viewers)

So... he hasn't named a QB and he hasn't ruled Carr out... not sure how much I like playing 3 card monte.
I need to catch up - I thought DC was out for the season with a broken hand?

Truth is we don’t get much of an edge hiding who starts. Neither are any type of threat to beat Washington right now.

If we are truly being honest with ourselves, the only legit shot we have at staying within 10 points is if Washington makes mistakes.

The only chance we have at winning is winning the turnover margin 3/1 along with a defensive or special teams score or where one or the other sets us up with a super short field that results in 6. It’ll take something kinda bizarre for us to have a legit shot to be in the game late

We just signed Ben Dinucci.

Denver Broncos

[edit]
On May 16, 2023, DiNucci signed with the Denver Broncos, after participating on a tryout basis at the team's rookie minicamp.[23] He was waived on August 29, 2023 and re-signed to the practice squad.[24][25] He signed a reserve/future contract on January 8, 2024.[26] On May 8, 2024, DiNucci was waived by the Broncos.[27]

Buffalo Bills

[edit]
On August 12, 2024, DiNucci signed with the Buffalo Bills after Shane Buechele suffered a neck injury.[28] On August 27, the Bills released DiNucci.[29]

New Orleans Saints

[edit]
On December 10, 2024, DiNucci was signed to the New Orleans Saints' practice squad following an injury to quarterback Derek Carr.

Don’t like it, and if I were either QB I’d be frustrated. Pick someone and get them the snaps, no need to play both sides the fence.
We are not winning the next 4 games anyways so it really doesn't matter. I do think you get more out of Rattler by starting him, the next 4 games with him playing with no pressure and the starting OL can give you an idea what you have in him or if you should take another QB in the draft.

In my humble thinking process, because of other needs and where I think we’ll draft, no other QB will have more potential than either Haener or Rattler at this point. We need to build around them and make sure we know what we do and we don’t have in both of them. And we don’t know about either at this point.

Before every upset in the NFL EVERYONE says the underdog is not winning the game. It makes me SMH how people say this absolute that is proved wrong more than once every yr. The funny thing is that's exactly why we should start Haener. We HAVE seen what SR can do starting , we have NOT seen what JH can do starting. Yeah when SR started we were missing 2 starting OL but we had Olave and Shaheed and Taysom. If JH starts there is no Olave , Shaheed or Taysom and that's maybe more challenging

I simply like Rattler's potential over Haener's. And if you're going to take a look, it's now.
We've already gotten a look at him, and he is almost certainly going to be on the roster next year whether he plays another game or not. Jordan Love only started one game from 2020-2022 before becoming the starter in 2023, the Packers saw him for three years in practice and knew they developed him enough to be ready.

Giving Haener a shot will give us some insight on whether we need to keep him on the roster in 2025 or try to move him for a late pick since Carr will be the starter next year. They aren't going to pay him $40m to sit on the bench, and it would probably be worthwhile keeping our third QB on the practice squad given how many injuries we seem to have every year.

I think the way it matter is in evaluating Rizzi as a potential HC. If you like what he is doing then it's a point in his favor. If you don't like it, it's a point against him.

Rattler actually looked okay when we had Olave and Shaheed but that lasted for less than one game before they both got hurt. And Hill was out for all but the Chargers game in which KK decided to call a stone age offense.

Because they aren't the starting QB. It might make a big difference in spring training/preseason or early in the season, but we're in week 13/14 it's really not going to make that much difference. And I'll say again that it's not an exact science. You're trying to find out what gives you the best chance to win. Maybe later in the week they go 100% one way or the other, but you still have to give each enough reps to figure out which way they go.

And for all we know, he may already know and will give one more reps. I don't know how I feel about Rizzi’s long term prospects, but I'm down with whatever. Let him do his thing is how I feel about it.

It’s also a chance to get both of them some meaningful reps as the season winds down, accounting for the possibility of both getting playing time, since neither is an established starter.

Generally, once you lose your starting QB for an extended period, none of the remaining alternative scenarios are ideal. Just have to roll with it.

There really isn't much for washington to gameplan for either way. back qbs with back up WRs and no Taysom equals a disaster.
