I like the scheme, love some of the playcalls and enjoy the run focus because lord knows I hate Passing 40+ times a game. We know this from my bumped Payton thread

Still, I’m not so sure Kubiak should return next year. The protection schemes w/ TEs blocking all-world DEs don’t make much sense either.

We can do better. You can get a glimpse of ranking in short below

Unfortunately, I believe that is a very important stat. And no, Im not saying that I want SP to return, however I feel like one of his strengths were making solid halftime adjustments.

On the other hand, KKs scripted plays in the beginning of the game are really impressive, adding a lot of motion plays etc. But then it seems to be mostly downhill from there.

We’ve had quite a few games where the offense has broken in the 2nd half. Part of me thinks the offense needs a playmaker at QB that can bail Kubiak out at times.

It’s def designed for a QB that can run a lil bit

Hard to imagine a different conclusion.

Well QB play is a big part of your offense saw when the running game was working which setup the deep throws.... somehow we can't get the passing game going to setup some big run plays....

Actually I think Foster did a pretty good job on that play. The only time KK has had a healthy offense was the 1st 2 games and we saw how that turned out. Also there were a few games that we lost playmakers late in the 1st half like Taysom and Olave that may have had an impact on the 2nd half offensive performance. I think KK has done quite well with what he has had to work with

I think it’s hard to judge Kubiak given the circumstances but that is a very telling stat….Defenses are adjusting to what we are doing in the 1st half and we don’t appear to be able to counter…..

I get a similar vibe watching the ridiculously injured Pels - they have enough talent to stay competitive for a quarter and sometimes a half, but the lack of quality depth always catches up

You can only scheme so much and lack of quality depth means you don’t have a plan B or C
Once plan A is figured out
It’s partly why Rattler was such a shot in the arm - instant plan B

I’m in the camp that good halftime adjustments shut the offense down, and that means we were out coached

The DVOA stats show the same. The offense is ranked 13th in the 1st half, 26th in the second half.

We are also pretty terrible for every scoring differential except being ahead by 2+ scores, which goes back to what I said at the beginning of the season about passing efficiency being the differentiator between good and bad offenses. It’s great that we can run the ball well when ahead, but we need more firepower in the passing game for the running game to matter against decent or better opponents.

Sounds like failure on adjustments, but I'll give any assistant coach a pass on conclusions from stats like this after having (1) league-worst Dennis Allen as HC, and (2) Derek Carr, who can't beat a team with a winning record, and creates low scoring output regardless of his own flashy passing stats.

Invest the reps into the mobile rookie. All we think about with Carr is that we're stuck with him probably one more year, and, please God Mickey do not restructure or extend him. It'll end in tears.

no it doesn't 'mean' that - it's not proof of anything
it might strongly (or weakly) suggest something, but it doesn't 'mean' that thing

I really wish we could get back to being a bit more rigorous with what language means
