Saints 1st half offense ranked 9th. 2nd half offense ranked 27th (1 Viewer)

You can only do so much with the players you have. I would say our WR group is near the bottom of the NFL. Plus things change if your leading by 14 or behind by 14. One player injury could change a game.

What I also find interesting about the disparity, is that last years team was the exact opposite. We were the 16th ranked scoring offense in the first half and the 5th ranked scoring offense in the second half.

I looked it up a couple of times because it felt like our game planning last year was frequently horrible, followed by comeback attempts. We might have had the best 3rd quarter point differential in the league. This year is a complete 180*.

Our Gs are so bad they need a C to help one and a OT to help the other. We should go G in the 2nd.

I get a similar vibe watching the ridiculously injured Pels - they have enough talent to stay competitive for a quarter and sometimes a half, but the lack of quality depth always catches up

You can only scheme so much and lack of quality depth means you don’t have a plan B or C
Once plan A is figured out
It’s partly why Rattler was such a shot in the arm - instant plan B
I think there is a difference. The Saint start a game missing a bunch of players and have a plan and start ok then more players get hurt and we just can't overcome that. That's not poor coaching that's just not having the players to execute the game plan. The Pels are only down 2 starters now, granted it's the 2 main starters. but in the last couple games they start out well then lose focus and hustle, do stupid things and have a lead and lose the game. Tonight was a great example. That's BAD coaching

Trey Murphy twisting his ankle is bad coaching?
he didn't have many options but CJ and Murray with the ball at the end - CJ and Murray let us down

The DVOA stats show the same. The offense is ranked 13th in the 1st half, 26th in the second half.

We are also pretty terrible for every scoring differential except being ahead by 2+ scores, which goes back to what I said at the beginning of the season about passing efficiency being the differentiator between good and bad offenses. It’s great that we can run the ball well when ahead, but we need more firepower in the passing game for the running game to matter against decent or better opponents.
When you have 7+ starters miss 36+ games All the stats advanced or not go out the window for getting a real idea of what the offense and the coaching staff can do. We had 2 games, TWO of being healthy and we saw what happened. Who we played matters not because of the amount of great success we had, had we scored 24 pts in each of those games and just looked good, I'd understand saying they just looked OK. But we scored 40+ BOTH games.

Even healthy we didn't have anything close to a superstar on offense , the closest we came was AK. TH had some close to superstar games.
I think for all the missing starters and the fact that even our starters were not great Kubiak has done a a pretty darn good job.

You can't put injuries on WG but you absolutely can put lack of focus and poor out of a TO plays. Complete lapses in concentration and stupid TOs on WG. Why no play design for Hawk??

I catch flak for it but I'll double down and say KK isn't our answer at OC.
Why ? 7+ starters missing 36+ games on offense not counting their backups. and that's not counting starters that went out during the games. I doubt Bill Walsh could have done better
