Saints 3 scenarios for reaching the Super Bowl (3 Viewers)

Does someone want to volunteer to explain the topic of the thread to this guy?

Dont mind him. He is just scared that either the Packs/Saints will send his team home. Trying to convince himself otherwise

I'm not trying to justify the numbers. They are what they are. I didn't create them. History did. If nothing else, it tends to prove that a division winner is much more likely to make a SB appearance. I like that because it's an argument against this ridiculous re-seeding idea, if one could call it that.

I'm saying that the bye week won't get you bubkis. The trend is for people playing the first week to advance deep into the playoffs since the 2002 merger.

I also think the Saints playoff experience is going to pay off and the Falcons will choke at the slightest hint of adversity. I think you're over confident and that the Falcons will not play as well as you think they will.

Then again, I'm on a Saints board and I'm likely to think that so. I'll give you this much and I give it to every opposing fan. Here's to no injuries and that the results get decided on the field and not by the refs.

I fear nothing. I've probably been watching football longer than alot of you have been alive, and I love my Falcons, but I just enjoy the ride. If the guys on the field are good enough, they will take care of business. If they aren't, I still have a good time, win or lose. All I expect is best effort for my dollar.

It's entertainment, after all. It's not life or death, and certainly my self-esteem doesn't ride on whether one team of millionaires beats another in a game. People take this stuff way too seriously...

And that's cool, brad. I'd expect nothing less. All I expect to get is entertained by the games. Like you said, no injuries and let the guys on the field decide who is better on that day. Nothing any of us says is going to change the guys in uniform getting it done or not on gameday.

Ouch, did I touch a sensitive subject. All you have to say is "I am not scared. We are the #1 seed"

Not at all. I just don't get worked up about this stuff. I have a life. The Falcons a major part of my entertainment, but I'm not betting my happiness as a human being on what goes on in a game. If you do. That's sad...

18.

How many of those lower seeds were defending Champs though. I see a big difference that these numbers cant predict.

Agreed... I don't think those stats include the 2nd best team in the conference being the 5th seed.... You can argue that point about being 2nd and such but this was a unique situation... But you also can discount the difficulty of winning 3 strait games on the road against playoff teams...

This is wayyy OT. Apologies to SaintReggie. I didn't realize that my post would become such a distraction. I meant it to be relevant to the conversation, but it wasn't to be, I suppose. No surprise there...

This is an excellent point. And how many of those teams play as well as the Saints have on the road the last couple of years (13-3 I believe)? If there is a team that can run the table on the road, bet black and gold, particularly with the NFC West draw and the potential to draw the Falcons in round 2.

This is wayyy OT. Apologies to everyone. I knew that my post would become a huge distraction. I meant it to be only somewhat relevant to the conversation, but I got called on it, I suppose. No surprise there...

fify

Has a team ever lost 3 in a row going into the playoffs and won the Super Bowl? Ummmmm, Anything is possible.

good point... those stats and historical data is misleading cuz generally, when a team loses their last 3, they probably weren't winners of 13 strait and didn't have much to play for...
