Saints are bringing back Shemar Jean-Charles onto the practice squad (1 Viewer)

Was DA with the Saints when they draft him? I think "not" but I don't remember. I don't recall there ever being a miss at DB under DA.
No, DA was on his way out of Oakland in 2014. Came back to the Saints in 2015, as the senior defensive assistant. Saw enough of SJB in his last 2015 preseason game to send him off. The rest of his career was as an offseason/practice squad guy.

After the draft, we as fans thought we killed it lol
Nah ...Payton was dead wrong. After 2013 he wanted to change to Seattle type defense. Signed Jaruis Byrd. Then drafted Batiste in the second round, which I was high on myself. He thought he got like a Brandon Browner corner. Big, tall and physical. Then rest of the draft was a bunch of no names that shouldn't be on anyone rosters.

Yes he was very wrong for that. He basically set the team back by 3 years - hence the 3 7&9 seasons. Going into the 2014 season has to be the biggest let down that I can remember.

After almost beating the Seahawks in the playoffs (not to mention the awesome play from Raphael Bush), there was a lot of excitement going into that season.

I even remember there was an article on nfl.com talking about the multiple facets to Rob Ryan's defense. Little did we know that we were up for a huge disappointment lol.

Lol..3rd round Khairi Fortt.... Who the heck is he? I remembered watching the draft the second and third day and wonder who the heck are these players. I am no Rob Ryan fan. I think he whine too much but I am not sure if all the blame should be on him for the defense going really bad. He did a fairly good job in 2013.

We even had another LB drafted that ended up passing away. We also had a safety from Alabama that didn't last long either.

But RR's true defense is what we saw in 2013. I asked a former player about what happened (regarding the regression from 2013-2014) and he didn't want to dive into too many details, but he basically said "it wasn't Rob's fault".

Love Payton, but his tinkering did set us back a few years around that time.
