Saints Cap Moves: $16,289,133 cap space ….. 7 restructures, 2 extensions, 2 pay cut, 1 release (134 Viewers)

We are pretty much maxing out our cap space immediately. Didn’t see that coming.

If that isn’t a sure sign that we are gearing up to be aggressive, whether it be free agents or trades, I don’t know what is.
Gotta think Becton is a prime target.

In theory you can keep all that cap space and take it with you into next year. I do think that they have some moves planned, but they do likely need $5 to $6 million of whatever they have for their draft class. But I also suspect they will get more space from Cam and Hill taking pay cuts.

I suspect they are looking at Samuel, Jr., Becton, and a Safety. Nick Said in addition to CB and a Guard, they want to bring MVS back, but both the team and MVS are waiting to see what kind of contract he is offered.

Agreed...on all. Obviously love Becton, but our secondary is basically on DEFCON-1 and needs some legitimate veteran talent added ASAP.

Would be awesome if we could sway Ward before he signs the dotted line, but that ship has likely sailed.

I guess you miss the 9 games that he didn't play in because of injuries...
So we payed him $5.7 million (salary + bonus) for 465 yards of total offense in 2024...

Taysom is a player that pulling the raw numbers and comparing them to a position isn't an accurate reflection of his impact and contributions. He's somewhat of an anomaly as is his contract. It's inflated and has been a headscratcher from the start because it was sort of between a starting and backup QB so I somewhat agree when you start comparing it to a RB or TE position. But the difference is the multi-use and impact he has on the game and scoring or moving the chains. It wasn't just a cute, gimicky thing, he heavily influenced our success or lack of success depending if he is in the game or not.

When he and McCoy left the lineup due to injuries the offense went from phenomenal to pedestrian in a flash. In his paltry 465 yards of offense were six TDs and countless first downs gained to continue drives. When we broke the huddle and Taysom dropped back to QB, the defense was at an extreme disadvantage. Yes, he's overpaid, but that contract was made during Payton's tenure. Taysom has delivered back way better than I thought he ever could.

I understand all of that fully...but as you stated he is & has been overpaid.
His salary & cap hit for 2025 just doesn't make sense...
I would like for him to return next year but at a reduced rate.
We will see...

All the ones he didn't play in?

Taysom is a great guy and a great player on the field, but his injuries are adding up every year. In order to have him for most of the season they are going to have to severely limit his touches. Which means he is going to have to take a pay cut. And, honestly, with the number of injuries he has had, Hill may want to retire soon to save his health for his family.
Last season was the first time Taysom missed more than 5 games as a Saint. He missed exactly 5 in 2021. One each in 2022-23.

Age and his collegiate injuries are issues, and I’d like to see them keep his offensive usage rate around 40% while decreasing his kick teams snaps. But missing games is a fairly new thing for him.
