Negative, Ghost Rider. Just because he had an outlier 2023 doesn't mean he was one of the best RBs in the league. He scored more TDs that year than he has the rest of his career. He was a career 4.0 ypc RB when he got to NOLA, which makes him below average. One year doesn't make him one of the best backs in the league when the five previous seasons told us a very different story.

Not sure the 4.0 ypc avg is a totally accurate measure of a short yardage specialist ‘s ability to be honest. Pierre Thomas’ greatest ever run for us was a one yarder for instance.
It didn’t work out for Williams but as usual he was another guy whose skill set we didn’t fully utilise.

Other teams are starting to pay mid QB’s 50 million a year so Carr thinks he’s worth the 40 million and refused to take a paycut. It was easier to restructure him and take the hit next season than to cut him this season.

Sounds like they wanted to do something more complex but ultimately settled on just the standard max restructure.

Maybe they thought they made leeway on a paycut or something incentive laden, but in the end whatever it was fell through.
