Saints Cap Moves: $15,887,993 cap space …..7 restructures, 1 extension, 1 release (293 Viewers)

I ask this again…what specifically is he not doing? Are you grading tape, evaluating his technique, understand his gap assignments, is he not twisting or doing stunts when he’s supposed to, is he not minding the gap he’s supposed to, do you know when and if he’s assigned to take on blockers on a given play for run fit purposes? Are you watching the behind the QB view, the all-22? What is it?

This evaluation of a role playing DT intrigues me because it keeps getting repeated, yet here, we have a brand new coaching staff and front office that has poured over film and decided he’s worth a modest extension, but external fan observers say he isn’t worth it. Based on what? Has he just not made enough fun looking plays for your liking?
I’ve yet to see him get off a block, stop a run or make any impactful plays ever. Clear enough?

I’m not the one making proclamations as if I’ve watched extensive DL tape and have a superior opinion to that of NFL coaches and front office execs as to whether or not a player is worth a modest one year extension.
You’re just making proclamations to the contrary lol every player on the saints roster isn’t a pro bowler. You understand that right? Feel weird I have to ask. Front office execs get it wrong all the time. Dennis Allen enters the chat. Zach Baun says hi. Every decision isn’t automatically a good one and it’s ok so question it as a modest little know nothing fan apparently.

But usually there is actual substance. You haven’t watched any DL tape. You don’t know his assignments. A DT’s job in many run fits is to stay on blockers. Just because a 300+ pound DT isn’t making fun plays doesn’t mean he isn’t doing his assigned job. Especially when you’re talking about a rotational, primarily run down player.

For all we know, our coaches may have high grades on his work. Their grades certainly aren’t bad if they re-signed him.

How do you know what I have or haven’t watched? I never said anything about making fun plays. He can’t stop the run, he gets pushed 2 yard off the LOS immediately.

Let me guess they don’t watch any film either?

Wasn't there some talk that Shepherd would be a better fit as a 3-4 DE or as the 4i? in Staley's Nickle front?

I suspect this might mean that Saunders gets cut.
That’s factual. His combine grade specifically suggested his best contribution would be as DE/DT in a 4i alignment

Because if you had your first argument would not have been “I’ve never seen him get off blocks, stop a run, or make impactful plays ever.” That’s elementary school level evaluation.
Love how you ignored this part

You gave zero evaluation so what does that say about you?

I guess none of his 37 tackles and 3 TFLs 6 QB hits, and 1.5 sacks as a rotational space eater qualify as stopping runs or making impactful plays ever?

He’s not asked to do a lot of the things you are critiquing him for.

Do you even know what technique he plays?

3rd time you ignoring that he ranked 207th out of 219 DTs in the run. Do you think that’s good? Answer that question.
