Because of COVID-19, NFL teams will have limited offseason training and practice opportunities. No one knows how limited at this point, but it seems we are past the point of the offseason being "normal."

So if ever a team was going to make a move to trade a bunch of lower round picks to jump up and grab a player, this seems like the year.

There will, of course, be UDFAs, so who knows how many rookies will be coming into camp (or whatever ends up substituting for camp this year), but I think that the team is smart to not bank on training up a bunch of rookies to jump into playing-time roles.

Right now, the team has three rookies who it needs to realistically evaluate and coach up for playing time. That's a lot better than having to do the same thing for 7-10 guys.

The draft played out in typical Saints fashion under SP and ML... They targeted three players they think have a chance to MAKE A DIFFERENCE on this 13-3 team that is largely set... As the OP opined there will not be a lot of time to indoctrinate a lot of rookies and we are in a fortunate situation to have a winning team with an established system and veteran (not old with few notable exceptions) team. SP told the players to come in, in the best shape of their lives. Whenever things get rolling this will be an intense Training Camp and Pre Season and they will not have so many new faces to get up to speed.

For the trade-backers out there the question is who will a 6th rounder replace... And before you start talking Colston etal remember Colston and the exceptions had mini camps and OTA's etc. These rooks will not....

Once again this management team is ahead of the curve. It sucks for the draftniks to not be able to come up with a gem off THEIR draft boards, especially when we all dont have much to do. But come August this team will hit the ground running
