Because of COVID-19, NFL teams will have limited offseason training and practice opportunities. No one knows how limited at this point, but it seems we are past the point of the offseason being "normal."
So if ever a team was going to make a move to trade a bunch of lower round picks to jump up and grab a player, this seems like the year.
There will, of course, be UDFAs, so who knows how many rookies will be coming into camp (or whatever ends up substituting for camp this year), but I think that the team is smart to not bank on training up a bunch of rookies to jump into playing-time roles.
Right now, the team has three rookies who it needs to realistically evaluate and coach up for playing time. That's a lot better than having to do the same thing for 7-10 guys.
