Mickey Loomis recently stated they really like the younger players on the roster.

Below are the players selected by the Saints since 2020. You can argue these players are the foundation of the next few years.

We’ve had a few swing and misses as one would expect. And we’ve found a couple of upper echelon players as well.

Of particular interest to me are the middle group of players from the 2023 class, Foskey, Miller and Saldiveri. We really need this group to develop or we’ll view this class, at best, as very ordinary. I see Haener as a career backup. The players picked late in this class are showing promise.

Of all of them, Olave, Adebo, Warner and Taylor are proving to be solid players. And so far, Bresee looks like he’ll join this group.
Ruiz has moments, but is too up/down for me.

I’m not so sure I view things the way Loomis does. We’ve had 11 Top 76 picks and I’d expect more from them.

There are players there, but I think they need new leadership, especially on offense.

Way overrates himself. Look at other teams drafts. They need to clean out Player personnel?Drafts and coach.

It looks to me like we have done better than average in that span. I am assuming we hit on (as capable starting players)....

  • Pete Werner
  • Paulson Adebo
  • Chris Olave
  • Alontae Taylor
  • Bryan Breese
  • Kendre Miller
If we get 6 solid starters/package players, 3 or 4 cumulative season awards (All-Pro/Pro Bowl, ROYs, POYs) and some rotational and ST players, out of 4 drafts from the middle of the table, well I would consider that just above the benchmark of successful drafting.

Agreed, some teams have done far worse. Imo what's hurt us is trading up and reaching for needs like we
did with Davenport and Turner. I wish we'd take a page out of the Ravens book. They rarely trade up or
down and let the draft come to them. They'll take the BPA at their spot. It's worked for 20 plus years and
I don't see it changing soon.

I'm not willing to put Miller in that group just yet. He hasn't produced much at all and injuries have played a part so far. I certainly have high hopes for him.

Lets test that theory. Our Draft Trade Value Chart shows that we have spent 6394.7 points in drafting over the last 4 years this is what we got.....

Just by simple comparison I picked the Packers as they drafted fairly close to us in the first round in most of those drafts. However it turns out they spent over 1000 more in draft capital (7429.6). Here is what they got....

I dont follow the Packers so you will have to tell me how they compare.

Also it really is hard to tell with the last 2 draft classes (2022 and 2023) because its still too early to evaluate without being in camps and practices.

Furthermore to be more objective we should really try to find 3 to 5 teams in the 6000 to 7000 Draft Capital range for a well rounded comparison.

This sounds like Mickey is saying "forget this year and wait till next year. Oh, and I'll be here as long as I want."

If we are grading our drafting skills we should pick teams with similar Draft Capital. Or so I would think. Its a lot of work to figure out who had what draft capital, but I would objectively listen to any team working with roughly the same assets.

Preach. I love the way the Ravens draft. They don't get too cute. They just draft good ball players. Obviously they don't hit on every pick but their approach has kept them competitive for years and years.

The only reason we're even staying in these games is because we're a talented team. The only reason we're a talented team is because we've drafted well.

Just because you keep around players that maybe you shouldn’t doesn’t make them foundation players, it makes them foundation anchors
