Saints expected to be very interested in former Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy (199 Viewers)

McCarthy is a guy that could jump to the top of Loomis' list. He's not my favorite choice for HC, but he would be a very safe pick to build this team back to being a playoff contender every year. Dallas has had issues in the playoffs, but outside of this year, they have been there and have had some really good regular seasons.

I'd like a younger, more innovative, and more aggressive coach, but he might be the right guy to bring stability and bring this team back to being consistently in the playoffs. The problem is that I think he would likely only be a short term option given that he is already 61 and doesn't appear to be in great shape. Then again, Andy Reid is still going and Payton is also 61.

Coach with a .608 career win percentage that made the playoffs in 2/3 seasons coached, and that also won a Super Bowl?

I’m in.

I was against him at first but since it’s become clear we’re only going to hire a coach that’s worked for the team before, I’m warming up to the idea.

His record and winning percentage is similar to Payton’s and he won’t cost us any draft picks.

That is my thinking as well, as we are in a for a rebuild and I think bringing in a young coach who can grow with the new direction of the team may be in the best interest of this franchise going forward.

McCarthy is just a candidate like everyone else so its not as if he is being hired or that Dallas is not where he wants to be.

Remember, Mike McCarthy already has history with the Saints as OC under Jim Haslett, I believe. He was also in the running for HC when Payton was interviewed. McCarthy took GB and Payton took NO instead of heading out to interview with the Raiders. The rest, as they say, is history.
