Saints head coach Kellen Moore introductory press conference, media updates, February 13, 2025 (4 Viewers)

I agree people are looking bit far into the comment. But, I do think the fact that Moore did not just say "Yes, Derek Carr is our starting QB" means that there is at least some question in his mind if Carr will be the starting QB. That could be about whether Carr will take a pay cut, could be about whether they could actually cut him and field a competitive team, could be that he's not sure if he can find a better option, etc.

But, I do think it's fair to conclude that Moore and the front office think there is a decision to be made regarding whether Carr is the starting QB next year.
He would be an atrocious coach if he already decided to get rid of Carr as he would also be an atrocious coach if he already decided to hand him the keys to the castle.

I would take him at face value and trust that the process is indeed extremely important to him and allow it to unfold however it unfolds.

The first thing you can be sure about is the tremendous fans on SR dont know squat when it comes down to it... the second thing you can be sure about is that the Saints media also doesnt know squat.

  • Mickey Loomis is a horrible GM
  • The New Orleans head coaching job is unattractive
  • Derek Carr is awful
  • We have to blow this thing up and start over
  • We will draft an OLinemen (or some other must pick position)
  • Player/Coach A, B, and C will follow Kellen Moore here
  • He loves Kamara and Taysom but is dodging questions about Derek

Its all just bunk.

Wait. Did he actually say that? If he did, it went out my other ear before it even went in the first one.

Yep, I remember it. He said something to the effect of that he is looking forward to having a few laughs with DC about it.

Still nothing that gives any hints in regards to anything though IMO. I am opting to just take Moore’s word on it; I think he is being genuine when he says he needs to go through an evaluation process on all of this stuff. There are a lot of moving parts and factors that have to be considered, and it isn’t just X’s and O’s.

One of those things, that isn't X's and O's, is can they work with each other's personalities. I think Moore understands that. Even IF Moore is heavily leaning toward Carr as the starter, I think he has the foresight to know that there's always the possibility that after their first long and in depth meeting. either Carr or Moore could decide, "yeah, I can't work with this jerk." I think that's unlikely to happen, but it's possible.

That's the possibility that not many people seem to be considering. I think the most likely starter next year will be either Carr or a free agent veteran that they bring in. Moore may end up starting Haener, Rattler or rookie that they draft, but I think that's less likely to happen.
Hmm. You make a good point. KM is fond of Drew Brees and the offense he ran. I wouldn’t be surprised if we go back to attempting to copy that offense. There might be a Jake Haener 2.0. Question is, of the three QBs on our roster, which one is best suited to emulate Drew Brees? It starts between the ears, your superpower will have to be “intuition” as preparedness was Brees’ best asset.
