Saints hire Brendan Nugent as O-Line coach; Keith Williams will remain Saints’ WR coach (150 Viewers)

It is rare for an IHC to stay on, so interesting that Venturi stuck around twice after being IHC. He also stayed on as DC with the Colts in 92 after being IHC in 91.

I think Venturi is a coach that gets characterized unfairly as a career loser when truth be told, the guy was a hell of a coach. There’s a reason why everyone liked having him around.

A really good coach that just happened to always be stuck around bad teams and bad situations in general.

An assistant coach can only do so much.

I didn't hear of any rifts or friction stemming from Venturi staying on to work under Ditka.

If you mean how did the Saints do regarding wins and losses, Moore is probably going to be a better head coach than Ditka was and Rizzi has already proven himself to be one of the best special teams coaches.

There's no question in my mind that Moore and Rizzi is a superior coaching combination than Ditka and Ventura, if Moore and Rizzi can work together professionally. All indications are both of them are very professional, so I think they would be able to work together if that's what they decide to do.

Yep. And Venturi actually remained in New Orleans through two head coaching changes, and was a part of the coaching staff when the Saints won their first playoff game. Unusual, certainly, but wouldn’t be unprecedented if Rizzi ended up staying. (I still expect he’ll end up in Denver, but it would be great to have him back if all sides think that can work.).

If Rizzi wants to be a HC someday he needs to give up being a ST coach and pick one side of the ball and work his way up. I'd like to see him be just an Ast HC with us to help KM with the transition. He could pick a position group to work with. He could be like the enforcer.

Yes, if Rizzi is down for that sort of role, it would absolutely be ideal.

I don’t want Rizzi to stay. There’s alot of veteran players that were pushing for him to get the head job, I don’t want any excuse for them to try to tune out Moore and go to Rizzi.

Keep Galiano on as STC, let Rizzi go to Denver.
Yeah with some vets coming out in vocal support of Rizzi you can't run the risk of fracturing the locker room by having him stay on. Galliano is a great fallback option.

Yep, there's that thought process as well. Some people can go back to their original role after filling in at a higher role and some can't.

I'm indifferent on whether Rizzi stays or goes. I'll leave it to CKM, ML and Rizzi if they can make it work.

Some players may have wanted Rizzi to get the job, however those same players just saw CKM win the SB after building an offense around Hurts' strengths and the strengths of that roster.

Speaking of the oline…you all will enjoy this. Skip ahead past the opening and Ruiz’s early history says some interesting things about Pennimg and Rizzi

I’ll be really happy is Rizzi stays. For those that think there would be a divide is ridiculous this isn’t “lord of the flies” come on

TBH I’d love for Rizzi to stay on as ST coach, but I’ve never heard of a situation where a head coach or interim coach was fired/not retained but stayed on as a “lesser” position.
Rizzi is the ultimate team player. He’s a perfect STC. If he would leave, then it would have to be assumed thst there would,be an ego clash. I’m not seeing that. Plus. We don’t want Sean to scavenge us anymore.

It would just suck for Rizzi. Rizzi is like ok, I’ll guide this team the rest of the way, at the expense of my freaking job. If I can’t create chicken salad from chicken butt crevasse. It doesn’t seem fair that he’s auto fired.

Not hyper excited about it. He was assistant to Roushar for a # of years w/ those rankings. His 1st year as running game coordinator was good, then we dipped to 3.8 ypc his first year as OL coach and he was subsequently let go for Marrone.

I’d expect him to be able to relate to the younger players better than a Marrone so there’s upside.
