Saints hire Brendan Nugent as O-Line coach; WR coach Keith Williams will return (3 Viewers)

TBH I’d love for Rizzi to stay on as ST coach, but I’ve never heard of a situation where a head coach or interim coach was fired/not retained but stayed on as a “lesser” position.
Same here. BUT after the love the players gave Rizzi? He may want to keep close to the NEW ENVIRONMENT, to help expand the success. Funny thing is we have all at some point been in these moments.

Usually young HC's hire a veteran OC or DC depending on what side of the ball the HC came from. Keeping Rizzi allows them to keep someone respected by the players, has Asst HC experience, interim HC experience and is one of the best in the game as a STC. It's a smart move by CKM if he decides to keep him.

Rick Venturi stayed on as Ditka's Asst HC/LB coach in 97 after serving as Interim HC to finish out the 96 season.

Nugent was the main Saints OL coach in 2021. I read the rest of the rankings as them happening during Nugent’s tenure being apart of coaching the Saints OL. But Ross did leave out the word assistant in front of OL coach for the other seasons 2015-2020.

It’s great to have a guy, who contributed coaching to top 10 OL units here for several seasons, to run the unit as the main position coach again.
Yes he was OL coach in 21, he was under Roushar in the other seasons. One of our better OL coaches, they should have kept him and not hired Marrone the guy that messed up our OL for 2 yrs

How did that work out again?
I didn't hear of any rifts or friction stemming from Venturi staying on to work under Ditka.

If you mean how did the Saints do regarding wins and losses, Moore is probably going to be a better head coach than Ditka was and Rizzi has already proven himself to be one of the best special teams coaches.

There's no question in my mind that Moore and Rizzi is a superior coaching combination than Ditka and Ventura, if Moore and Rizzi can work together professionally. All indications are both of them are very professional, so I think they would be able to work together if that's what they decide to do.

It is rare for an IHC to stay on, so interesting that Venturi stuck around twice after being IHC. He also stayed on as DC with the Colts in 92 after being IHC in 91.

If Rizzi wants to be a HC someday he needs to give up being a ST coach and pick one side of the ball and work his way up. I'd like to see him be just an Ast HC with us to help KM with the transition. He could pick a position group to work with. He could be like the enforcer.

what does this mean for Jahri Evans?

Something tells me Jahri is a coach Loomis basically told Moore going in that he’s sticking around.

Evans kind of hinted at that at Senior Bowl, answering reporters with a kind of sarcastic “Yeah I’m pretty sure I’m safe” with a slight grin when asked about his potential job status.

I think people freaked out a bit too much when hearing reports of Loomis wanting to tell the new head coach what coaches he wants to stay. That was (likely) always about coaches/front office types like Evans, Bryan Young, Kevin Petry, Fred McAfee, Mike Martinez, Charles Byrd, Jordan Traylor, etc. Assistant to the position coach types and team mainstays. Former Saints players, local young homegrown guys that aren’t necessarily on the immediate ascension path but the team likes having around and have shown loyalty to the organization, etc.

I don’t want Rizzi to stay. There’s alot of veteran players that were pushing for him to get the head job, I don’t want any excuse for them to try to tune out Moore and go to Rizzi.

Keep Galiano on as STC, let Rizzi go to Denver.

And this is not abnormal at all. Every team has assistants to the assistants that stay on through multiple coaching regimes.
