Saints Inactives (2 Viewers)

Maybe an oversimplification, but I think he’s saying ‘good teams don’t lean on 1st rd draft picks’
First round picks are different, especially at a skill position. Doesn’t matter how good you are they’re going to make plays.

But after that if your rookies are beating out your vets you likely weren’t a good team to begin with.

No team has ever been a 2nd or 3rd round pick away from a Championship.

You see it every year and you’ll see it again this year, teams in the playoff hunt will make a trade for a player that they think can get them over the line because they know that pick next year is unlikely to make the team.

"throw away?" no but for a guy who came from a big school and wasn't seen as a project to be a healthy scratch is definitely not a great sign.

No, it isn't. Stop jumping to conclusions. He ended up in camp late and took awhile to show flashes. Fans want to come to pre-mature conclusions too soon about players. He might be a bust, who knows but being inactive in the first game is NOT any indication of whether or not he'll eventually be productive.

Agree to disagree on this one. Pick 40 being a healthy scratch is not ideal.

Yes, because the player he is now is undoubtedly the ceiling of his career. 🤦‍♂️
Nobody is saying that so not sure why you're trying to argue that.

Investing a top pick for them to be inactive when they where NOT seen as a project isn't great.

Infact you can go look at those drafted after him and im 10 picks deep and so far they are ALL active for their respective teams

I'm arguing the simple fact that one game doesn't define a player's career. And someone already gave you the example of a good Saints player who was a first round pick and inactive their first game. It's not unacceptable (your actual word), it's what sometimes happens.

It’s not encouraging to me either, along with all reports on how he’s played so far….as to the big school thing you need to talk to BayouSaintJoe about that. 😂

You said not being active was unacceptable. Semantics don't save this from being a pretty terrible hot take.
You think it's acceptable for the 40th pick in the draft to be a healthy scratch? As in, he's not even good enough to be considered a backup at this point.

That's absolutely unacceptable for a team that wants to compete through the draft. There's not a SINGLE player selected after him in the 2nd that is also a healthy scratch. He's the only one. The next healthy scratch is an Eagles OT in the 3rd and reports out of camp he's awful.

That's not to say he won't grow into a starter (hopefully) and there might be one or two examples of this happening but there's definitely reason to panic.
