Saints made strong push for CB Charvarious Ward before he signed with Colts for 3yrs/$60m (21 Viewers)

So here’s a good ?. Mekhi played RG but Ruiz is entrenched there. Would you ask Becton to play LG?

Part of me think Becton will get a look at T and Fuaga could slide to RT. Penning as the 6th OL helps the overall depth.

One things for sure, we may keep some zone blocking concepts but we’ll be playing Man/Gap schemes like Moore did in PHI

Yeah I’m thinking Becton at LG but that would obviously be for the coaches to figure out.

We’d have to do some mixing and matching in camp for sure.

This hits home because I too made a strong push, at about 7:45am.

I tell you what, speaking of 49ers offboarding players, Coach Payton reeled in Dre Greenlaw. I thought that was among the most notable things across the wire today.

I agree that that would be the best overall strategy. I'm personnaly ok with seeing them build for the future even if 2025 is a subpar season. But I sincerely wonder if this team can actually attract up and coming, young talent without overspending. It is not in Loomis's MO to overspend... so he goes and tries to get a superior talent in Ward that is reaching 30 years of age... I imagine he goes with the classic mantra of not offering more money that what he thinks he is worth (spotrac had him as a 13 M/ year type of player), and lost the bidding war, as you would expect.
It's easier said than done, but I think the plan should be to look for other teams' Zack Baun types of releases. Maybe a player with tools who had obstacles in front of him or something that didn't allow him to show out. Maybe he was just a slow developer. Something like that. Thats the kind of guy we might be able to get and benefit from down the road. I know this, no matter what I'd be doing today, it would be with 2027 in mind. The next two seasons will be a challenge no matter what.

What if the CB is the highest graded player on their board come pick 9 and they can’t find a trade partner?

I can think of much better things to lose your mind over than drafting just about any NFL draft’s top rated CB, regardless of need.
It's not a question of higher grade but of how much a higher grade. If the CB is rated @ a 9 and a big X WR is rated @ a 8.9 than it will be more than likely the WR taken.

I like Rico Payton. He should be ready to take on more snaps in 2025.
This might be the reason our FO isn't willing to overpay for a UFA CB.
