Saints met with top QB prospect Cam Ward [Schefter: CLE, NYG or maybe Saints have to make an offer compelling enough for #1 pick]

At the same point, you have to wonder what the Browns are going to do at QB? Maybe they think Watson is going to be okay and want to try to rehab him as a starting QB. But, I also can't see them going with Pickett if Watson can't play or they are done trying to fix him.

If that's the case, what will they do at QB? I know this will annoy people, but maybe Cleveland is a trade partner for Carr after June 1? If the Saints do trade up for Ward and Cleveland does not take a QB in the draft, a trade with Cleveland for Carr would allow the Saints to get a much needed draft pick if they pay the price for Ward. Of course, Carr would have to agree to the trade.
I think the extra money on the books is setting up for a Cap hit this year and then the big one in 2026, and yet some of the moves made w/ the players almost suggest your old core, especially if you make the playoffs this year, will still be on the team in 2026 too. I'd prefer to keep Carr, have always liked him as a Tutor, but you probably feel good about Rattler as #2 and you'd likely feel good about Rattler/Ward competing for starting snaps too.

But to your point, the level of committment to Watson almost confirms they are tied to him for at least another year. I think they'll be in the running for a QB but it probably behooves them to take one later.

I'm thinking that you only move Carr if you do move up for Ward. I don't think Carr would want to be here in that situation, that is if he wants to be here as it is. I get the idea of a mentor, but Carr still wants to play and could probably get another good contract at his age. He's not like Cousins who is literally on his last leg and is already 36. Carr is about 3 years younger. But outside of maybe Pittsburg, I'm not sure there is a landing spot for Carr at this point.

But, I do think you may be right that they are going to continue to try to make Watson work, but might consider taking a QB later in the draft.

Does anybody wonder if the Saints already told Carr they're moving up for Ward and they plan on keeping him in a Kirk Cousins role...and that's why the "open to a trade" thing grew legs?

Perhaps Carr isn't handling it as well as Kirk Cousins?
Carr's feelings in regards to drafting a QB this year.

If you're gonna "mortgage the future" you do it for a QB. There are no "can't miss" prospects... every one of these players coming out of college has a huge question mark on them when they get to the NFL regardless of where they're picked.

The one position that I would have no problem with the Saints trading up for is a QB. You can't win without a real good one. Cam Ward was real good in college, and I think he's gonna be a pretty good pro.

Me personally... I don't think Spencer Rattler (nor Jake Haener for that matter) got a fair shot last year playing behind a patchwork oline and throwing to not-so-good receivers. No QB would thrive in that situation especially a rookie 5th rounder. I would love to see Rattler in Kellen Moore's offense because I believe Ratt has arm talent and can make every throw.

But I also know that head coaches want "their guy" especially offensive coaches (former QBs). They know what they want in a QB, so if Kellen Moore wants Cam Ward I would have no other choice other than root for the kid when he gets here. But if I'm making decisions I would either draft the BPA on my board or trade down... I wouldn't trade up. But I would have no issues if they do trade up for Ward.

If OTC is correct and up-to-date, Carr is a $20M dead cap to move him post June 1. And he's a $20M cap hit if he stays, so the money is already allocated without further cap spending. Saints would just be deciding to spend that money to not have Carr.

Watson's cap and dead caps are insane and hilarious to look at, until 2027, when it finally drops into the 20M's. They are stuck with him. He is rehabbing but not expected back in 2025 as he recently re-tore the achilles. As posted by others, they must do something draft or trade for a vet.

I'm same. I'd be ok if they traded up for Ward, would be just as OK w/ trying to remake the O-line and D-line. I'd centerpiece it around Kenneth Graham and Tyler Booker in 1st and 2nd round. I named my Cat Spencer, I'd prefer we give Rattler a shot and then make a move for a QB in 2026.

Rumors that they’re talking to the Cowboys about Dak.

The Cowboys finding a way to eat 150M dead cap would be pretty impressive (also impossible)
