Saints met with top QB prospect Cam Ward [Schefter: CLE, NYG or maybe Saints have to make an offer compelling enough for #1 pick]

If the Titans think Cam Ward will be elite, why would they trade the pick? The Texans went from worst to first in the AFC South. Why would the Titans not think they can do that since QB play was what cost them the AFC South in 2022.
Difference between elite and a generational talent. Also about fit as well. Cam Ward is no doubt the best QB prospect but he may or may not fit what the Titans want. The Titans have had every opportunity to come out and shut it all down with having the 1st overall pick like the Bengals did when Burrow was coming out. Difference between like and love. I think its kinda stupid for the Titans to trade the Saints for the 9th pick but at the same time, its the freaking Titans who have made dumb decisions for many years now, that head coach they hired is an idiot.

From every indication thus far, the Titans are open for business with their number 1 pick. This doesn't mean the Saints will successfully make the trade but it does open the door for a team in the top 5 to pull that trigger.

It doesn’t make any sense at all for them to trade with the Saints. It only makes sense if they trade the Browns, Giants or Patriots. But I also agree with everything you said

True. Offering additional support to your statement(s). There seem to be a few fans on here that believe Loomis inquiring about the #1 overall pick is evidence of something below the surface. Which MAY turn out to be true. But the fact is....Loomis inquires about the #1 overall pick quite often. If the #1 ain't for sale, he inquires about #2, or #3, until he gets a basis for the cost of the jump. Doesn't matter if we select #9, or #29. It seems to be part of how he sets up his value chart.

Although, one of these days, those folks thinking Loomis gonna pay to jump to #1 overall are likely to be correct.....SOME DAY!

It's not just the inquiring about the #1 pick. We also know that they really like Ward and see him as by far the #1 QB in the draft. We also know that Loomis has always been very aggressive in the draft and has no issue with using lots of future picks to trade up for players they like. Then you combine that with rumors Carr wants to go, the fact that Carr is about to be 34, and the fact that Carr is near the end of his contract.

It's probably not going to happen because unless the Titans are dumb they will take Ward or at least demand way more than the #1 pick is worth. But, it's not outside the realm of possibility that it will happen.

And if they don't find a franchise QB soon, Loomis will trade up high in the first to take a QB sooner or later and likely within the next 2 years.

This is not likely true due to the Benson will.

Benson's Will says nothing that would mean that Loomis can't be fired or moved to another position. He's just the 2nd or 3rd option to be executor of the estate. He can do that whether he works for the Saints or not. It's just an administrative duty that he could even choose to reject.

Maybe the Titans don't think Ward will be elite or they think Levis is better? Or maybe they think a boat load of picks would be a better way for them to build their team? There HC and GM need to win very soon or they are done so they may not want to build with a young QB and would rather a quick infusion of talent at other positions in an effort to save their jobs.

Or maybe they do think he's elite and won't trade down?

All possibilities are on the table right now.

Lots of possibilities:

1) The Titans suck at scouting the QB position, which has been objectively true for a very long time. Even if the Titans don’t think that Ward is elite doesn’t mean that their assessment is accurate.

2) The Titans think that Ward is elite but are confident that either they or the Saints have a lottery pick next year when they have would have another chance to draft an elite QB while also getting other trade resources.

3) The Titans think that Ward is elite but also think that there isn’t much of a drop off to Sanders or Dart, and want the other draft resources acquired.

4) The Titans think Ward is elite but everyone has a price, and another team is willing to pay it. See “Godfather.”

Completely agree. Let’s not kid ourselves that this is as bad as the Katrina year or Ditka days/pre-Mora days. It’s not that this is a horrible team, but that is part of the frustration. It truly feels like we’re in indefinite purgatory. Not good enough to compete but not bad enough to truly upgrade the QB position. Moore offers a small bit of optimism but this is still an aging team without much high end talent. It’s a team that needs a reset but without a clear path to even do that. Ward at least provides optimism and hope…because a good HC and franchise QB is definitely the quickest avenue to improve your team.

I agree, this is nothing like the Ditka years or Katrina year and purgatory is a good description of where we are bouncing right around the 9-8/8-9 record, a few less injuries we probably win 10 games. 9-8/10-7 can win the division and get into the real season where every team has a chance, but the best usually rises to the top.

I would say CKM provides quite a bit of optimism, the most since CSP was hired. A lot of the optimism is with is offense and ability to build it around the strengths of the players he has. For me, the optimism is with him being a former QB and every step below him to the QB is a former QB. This tells me that CKM and his offensive team, can look at any QB and envision and offense to build around the QB to capitalize on the QB's strengths. With that, I'm going to be excited for whoever CKM goes after as the QB1 of the future. Obviously, that QB is not on the roster as he hasn't thrown his full support behind any QB on the roster, so his QB isn't on the roster. If we draft Dart, McCord, Shough, Howard, etc., I'll be excited to see what he can do. If we trade for Milton and he throws his support behind him, I'll do that same.

My only wish/hope is that we get a QB that is at least 6'2" and 220lbs for the durability. I would prefer not to have a QB smaller than some CBs and Safeties.

We know they like Ward...agreed. We do NOT know they see him as by far the #1 QB in the draft...that is SPECULATION or confirmation bias. We do know the Saints are being way more diligent than usual (or leaking more info than usual) with respect to QB prospects.

Agree with everything else you said. Right on Widge!

Always remember the Bills traded #10 to the Chiefs for 27, 91, and a 2016 1st. They didn't think Mahomes was worth the 10th pick. It's possible the Titans don't view Ward as worth the #1 pick....it's also possible like the Bills they're wrong in their assessment of the player. It's possible they're right too

I mean, Underhill reported that they have Ward as the top rated QB and they really like him alot. On the other hand, Underhill says they have a 2nd round grade on Sanders and have Dart rated somewhere behind Sanders. So, to the extent you think Underhill is credible, I think we have pretty solid information that they have Ward graded well above any other QB in this draft.

But, that could obviously change in the next month after private workouts, meetings, etc.

If this is even remotely true, forget trading with Tennessee if this is what they are asking for in order to switch with the Giants.

I know it's a general rule of negotiating to ask for more than you are willing to settle for, but there is a obviously a massive difference between moving from 1st to 3rd and 1st to 9th
